Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Canada and Argentina won their respective matches on the day five of the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship for Men held at Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela.

Paraguay 54 – 83 Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic defeated Paraguay by 83-54, in a Group B match. The match was suspended and the play was stopped with 4:23 remaining in the last quarter due to power outage and Dominican Republic were declared the winners.

Dominican Republic took the first and second quarter 26-9 and 27-15 respectively, while Paraguay took the third quarter 24-17. Dominican Republic were leading 13-6 in the last quarter, when the match was called off.

Karl Towns was best player of the match for the Dominican Republic with 16 points and 4 rebounds while for Paraguay, Guillermo Araujo scored 26 points. With the win, Dominican Republic entered the next round of the championship while Paraguay are out of the championship.

Mexico 78 – 98 Argentina

Argentina entered the second round of the championship after they topped Group B. They defeated Mexico 98-78 their last match of the preliminary round.

Although the first quarter was tie with both teams scoring 26 points each, Mexico were no match for Argentina in the remaining quarters of the match. Argentina took the remaining quarters 19-14, 26-19, 27-19 respectively.

Luis Scola was outstanding with 25 points and 4 rebounds for Argentina, while Mexico were led by Hector Hernandez, with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Mexico also entered the second round of the championship as the second placed team of Group B.

Brazil 76 – 78 Jamaica

The biggest shock of the championship saw Brazil eliminated from the preliminary round as they lost their last match to Jamaica 76-78. A must-win match for both teams, Jamaica held their nerve to send Brazil packing.

Jamaica took the first and second quarter 18-17 and 21-19 respectively, while Brazil took the third quarter 23-14 to go to the last quarter with 10 point advantage. But Jamaica were better side in the last quarter as they took the deciding quarter 25-17 to win the match and to enter the next round of the championship.

For Jamaica, Samardo Samuels top scored with 21 points, while Caio Torres and Vitor Benite accumulated 12 points each for Brazil.

Canada 93 – 67 Uruguay

Canada outclassed Uruguay 93-67 in the last preliminary round match of the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship. Canada took the first three quarters 29-11, 22-14 and 24-23 respectively, while Uruguay took the last quarter 19-18.

Despite the loss, Uruguay also entered the next round of the championship as the third placed team of Group A.

Andrew Nicholson was best player for Canada with 18 points, followed by Cory Joseph with 17 points and 7 assists.

10 teams affiliated to the FIBA Americas sub zone fighting for the continental honors at the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship, which are being held in Venezuela. The top four teams qualify for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.
