2013 FIBA Americas Championship concluded at Caracas, Venezuela, with Mexico wining the gold while Argentina settled for the bronze medal.

In the final match of the championship, Mexico won their first ever gold of FIBA Americas Championship by beating Puerto Rico, 91-89. Mexico were playing their first ever final of the FIBA Americas Championship and were the better side as they started the match with taking the first quarter 26 – 18.

Puerto Rico took the second and third quarter 27 – 22 and 26 – 18 respectively to go to the last quarter with 5 points lead. But Mexico come out strong and hold their nerve to take the last quarter 28 – 18 and win the championship by 2 points.

Gustavo Ayon stood out with 20 points and 16 rebounds for Mexico while Carlos Arroyo had 23 points, and Jose Juan Barea had 20 points for Puerto Rico.

Meanwhile, defending champions Argentina defeated the Dominican Republic, 103-93 to take home bronze medal of the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship. Argentina took the first quarter 26 – 20 while Dominican Republic took the second quarter 25 – 19.

At the break, both teams were tied at 45 each. After the break, Argentina took the remaining two quarters 24 – 23 and 23 – 25 respectively to win the bronze medal of the championship. Facundo Campazzo scored 31 points and had 11 assists, while Luis Scola had 23 points and made 9 rebounds for Argentina. For the Dominican Republic, Edgar Sosa was top scorer with 20 points.

Gustavo Ayon of Mexico was declared the most valuable player of the championship while the all championship team included Center Gustavo Ayon (mexico), Guard Facundo Campazzo (Argentina), Gurad J.J. Barea (Puerto Rico), Forward Renaldo Balkman (Puerto Rico) and Forward Luis Scola (Argentina).

10 teams affiliated to the FIBA Americas sub-zone battled for the continental honors at the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship. Mexico, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Argentina, the four semi-finalists of the championship, have booked their tickets to the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.

The 2013 FIBA Americas Championship was held at Caracas, Venezuela from 30 August to 11 September 2013.
