Teams confirmed for 2014 FIBA 3x3 World Championships, no team from South Asia

Despite the rising popularity of basketball including 3×3 basketball in South Asia, no team (country) from South Asia will participate in the 2014 FIBA 3×3 World Championships which are scheduled to be held from 5 to 8 June 2014 in Luzhniki Park, in Moscow, Russia.

35 countries (48 teams: 24 men’s and 24 women’s) have confirmed their participation. Out of the 35 countries, 18 countries will make their debut in the FIBA 3×3 World Championships.

In the men’s category Croatia, Japan, Lithuania, New Zealand, Poland, Puerto Rico and Qatar will make their debut while Andorra, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Syria, Thailand and Uganda will be participating for the first time in the women’s category. Meanwhile China, Indonesia, Tunisia and Uruguay will make their debut in both the men’s and women’s categories.

Serbia and USA are the defending champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

In both the categories, the 24 teams will be divided into four groups of six teams and will play a round-robin system leading to a single elimination phase including eighth-finals, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.

An additional four individual competitions will be staged in Moscow: dunk competition for men, skills competition for women, shoot-out competition mixed and free-throw pursuit mixed.
