The Maldives national basketball team is off to Kathmandu, Nepal to participate in the 3rd SABA Basketball Championship for men scheduled to be held from 13 May to 17 May 2014.

Five countries – hosts Nepal, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh – are set to participate in the the biggest basketball event of South Asia.

SABA, the governing body of basketball in South Asia, is the organizer of the championship whereas Nepal Basketball Association, the governing body of basketball in Nepal, is the LOC of the championship.

The first edition of the championship was held in the Indian state of Assam in 2002 in which hosts India drubbed Bangladesh 139-34 to win the title. The second edition of the championship was held in January 2013 in Bangladesh with the hosts winning.
