Qatar’s Al Rayyan continued their winning streak by beating Duhok of Iraq 88 – 69 in their second match of the 24th FIBA Asia Champions Cup at Amman, Jordan. They earlier defeated BC Kapshagay of Kazakhstan 81 – 67.

Al Rayyan took the first quarter 21 – 19 and also won the second quarter 29 – 14 to go to the halftime break with a 17-point lead. After the break, Duhok tried to come back to the game by winning the third quarter 18 – 13 but Al Rayyan were too strong for Duhok as they took the last quarter 25 – 18 to comfortably win the match 88 – 69.

Watson led Al Rayyan with the championship-high 34 points while Ronald Taylor’s netted 20 points for Duhok.

India’s ONGC, Duhok of Iran, Al Rayyan of Qatar and Kazakhstan’s BC Kapshagay are in Group B while Group A consists of Al Hala (BRN), ASU (JOR), Foolad Mahan (IRI) and Al Jaish (SYR).

ONGC will play Duhok and Al Hala will face Aj Jaish on Monday.

The FIBA Asia Champions Cup, previously known as the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) Champions Cup, is Asia’s premier club-level basketball competition, involving the champion clubs of Asian countries.

It is organised by FIBA Asia and takes place once a year. A total of 10 professional basketball clubs qualify every year from the sub-zones of FIBA Asia.
