Winning NBA championships without superstars in today's era is seemingly impossible.

Accordingly, some contending teams are built around superstars, though they might still need other pieces to succeed.

5 best Big Threes in the NBA 2020-21 season

Last year, the LA Lakers won the NBA championship with a team based around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The pair combined effectively for the entire season, and their chemistry remains off the charts.

In the current NBA campaign, the Brooklyn Nets have a Big Three consisting of two former MVPs and arguably the most creative scorer in the league.

In this report, we will take a look at the five best 3-man lineups in the 2020-21 NBA season.

#1 Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden (Brooklyn Nets)

Anytime we hear 'Big Three' in the current NBA, we think about the Brooklyn Nets and the team they created around Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden.

The team signed Durant and Irving in the 2019 offseason and looked like contenders at the start of the 2020-21 NBA season. However, with rumors about Harden's displeasure with the Houston Rockets doing the rounds, they went all-in and traded for the former MVP on January 13th, 2021.

That trade put Durant, Irving and Harden together, creating arguably the greatest offensive group ever assembled in the league.

Durant is averaging 29.5 PPG, Irving is at 27.5, while Harden is leading the NBA in assists with 11.2 per night. In his 11 games with the Nets, Harden is averaging 23.6 points and 11.8 assists per game.

The trio have struggled defensively, but they might be able to score more points than any of their rivals at any given time.

#2 Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris (Philadelphia 76ers)

The Philadelphia 76ers lead the NBA's Eastern Conference with a 17-7 record so far in the 2020-21 NBA season. Three players have been essential for Doc Rivers' team: Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris.

Though the previous point about the Brooklyn Nets was more about reputation, the Sixers' trio makes this list out of pure production in the current season.

Embiid is averaging 29 points and 11 rebounds per game and is clearly a candidate for the NBA Most Valuable Player award. Meanwhile, Simmons is averaging 13 points, eight assists, and eight rebounds per game while also being considered a contender for the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Harris, an experienced player in the NBA, is having one of his best years. He is putting up 20 points per game along with seven rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block per appearance. Harris also has a 51/44/87 shooting split.

#3 LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Dennis Schroder (LA Lakers)

The reigning NBA champions, the LA Lakers, got Dennis Schroder from the OKC Thunder in the offseason. Schroder was a strong candidate for the Sixth Man of the Year award last year and has played tremendously as a starter for the LA Lakers so far.

Of course, LeBron James and Anthony Davis are unquestioned players in this trio and would be on this list regardless of who the third player is. James is still one of the greatest players on the planet and is a favorite to win the NBA MVP award for many.

James is averaging 25.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game so far. Davis, on the other hand, is not having the greatest year of his career offensively but is still averaging 22 points and 8.6 rebounds per game while making 53% of his shots. Moreover, AD is a solid contender for the NBA DPOY award.

Schroder is the third-best scorer on the team, with 14 points per night, and is averaging four rebounds and four assists per match.

#4 Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday (Milwaukee Bucks)

On paper, the Milwaukee Bucks have a better roster than last season. Though they have not been what they were in the 2019-20 season, their Big Three has the potential to inflict damage on their rivals in the postseason.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is the two-time reigning MVP of the NBA and has been quietly putting his name in that discussion again. He is putting up 27 points, 11 rebounds and six assists per game while making 56% of his shots so far.

Middleton and Holiday have been good for Milwaukee, too. Middleton is averaging 20 points, six rebounds and six assists per game with shooting splits of 52/47/93, while Holiday is at 16/5/5.

#5 Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert and Jordan Clarkson (Utah Jazz)

The Utah Jazz currently have the best record in the NBA at 19-5. Three players have been particularly impressive for them this season.

Donovan Mitchell is the offensive leader in the starting lineup. He is averaging 23 points, four rebounds and five assists per game.

Rudy Gobert is another leader on the team, but his greatest impact comes on the defensive end. The two-time NBA DPOY winner is a great defender who protects the rim at an elite level. He averages 13 points and 13 rebounds per game and is also the leader in Defensive Rating in the entire NBA.

Off the bench, Jordan Clarkson is putting up 17.5 points per night for the Jazz with shooting splits of 46/39/97. He should be a top candidate for the Sixth Man of the Year award, even though it is still early in the campaign.
