FIBA Asia U16 Women's Championship: East Asians enter semi-finals

Tradition and history continued in the ongoing 3rd FIBA ASIA U16 Championship for women at Colombo, Sri Lanka, as the traditional powerhouses of Asian women’s basketball, the East Asian countries, entered the semi-final of the championship. All the participating East Asians countries, China, Chinese Taipei and Korea, made it through.

Japan finished top of the standings with a 100% record and will face Chinese Taipei who finished in fourth spot in Level 1, in the semifinal. The other semi-final will be between Korea and China, who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively, in the preliminary round standings of Level 1.

Meanwhile in level 2, Thailand finished on top and will face Malaysia, the last placed team of level 1 in the qualifying match. The other qualifying match will be between India and Kazakhstan. The winners of the qualifying match will be in level 1 of the FIBA Asia U16 Championship for women and the losing team will have to play in level 2 of the championship.

Below are DAY 5 (final day of preliminary round) results of the 3rd FIBA Asia U16 championship for women:

Level 1

  • Malaysia 12-87 Japan
  • India 56-106 Korea
  • China 110-74 Chinese Taipei

Level 2

  • Thailand 71-62 HK
  • Jordan 58-70 Kazakhstan
  • Srilanka 36-52 Indonesia

The top three teams from the 3rd FIBA Asia U16 Championship for Women will represent FIBA Asia in the 2014 FIBA World U17 Championship for women which will be played at Bratislava (Slovak Republic) from July 10 – July 20, 2014.
