What's the news?

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green is close to hiring Rich Paul of Klutch Sports as his new agent. Haynes cited unnamed league sources who claim that the 28-year-old will soon ditch his current agency (Wasserman) in favor of Paul, who already boasts clients such as LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and John Wall.

With Green's long-term future in Golden State currently uncertain, Haynes' announcement immediately fuelled speculation that Green could link up with LeBron in Los Angeles Lakers, as LeBron has a long history of trying to recruit Paul's clients.

In case you didn't know...

Green has been with the Warriors since being selected by the team with the 35th overall pick of the 2012 draft. The Michigan native has won three Championships with Golden State, and Green has been widely viewed as the heart and soul of the Warriors team. Green was also named as the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year back in 2017.

The heart of the matter

Green's signing with Rich Paul's agency may be no more than a coincidence, however, Green is evidently a player that the Lakers would like to have on their roster. The Warriors also have one of the highest payrolls in NBA history, and Green has consistently stated that he wants to sign a max deal. Green is eligible to discuss an extension with the Warriors during this upcoming offseason, although if a deal is not agreed upon, the Warriors may look to trade Green before his contract expires in 2020.

At this point, Green linking up with LeBron still looks unlikely, however, the pull of James should never be underestimated and Green's contract negotiations with the Warriors is something to keep an eye on.

What's next?

The Lakers will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to the New Orleans Pelicans as they take on the Memphis Grizzlies.
