In the men’s section, Macau played for the second straight day with their match against Mozambique, and the team of Guinea Bissau also played its second game in as many days with a match against Angola.

In the women’s event, the lone match was played between the host nation of India and Macau.

Results:

Men’s Prelims

Macau vs Mozambique

Final Score: 34-100

Macau lost its second match in as many games after failing to score in double digits in all but one quarter while their opponents, playing their first match of the Games, averaged 27.5 points in the game.

After a 48-point drubbing in the earlier game, Macau did not get any better, losing this contest by 66 points. This match-up, the first of Day 2, continued the trend of games being lost by blowout margins.

With not a lot of teams participating in the first place, Macau face a stiff task of making it past the preliminary stage, given that they have already lost two games.

Angola vs Guinea Bissau

Final Score: 83-46

Compared to the earlier games, at half-time this one looked like it would be a close contest with the gap after two quarters in favour of Angola being only 7.

But Angola, also playing their first match, turned it on in the second half on both ends of the floor. After outscoring the team from Guinea Bissau 29-10 in the third, they continued their form into the final period of play by outscoring the opponents 20-9.

Guinea Bissau faces a similar tough situation as Macau does, having lost both of their matches.

Women’s Prelims

Macau vs India

Final Score:

45-110

The women’s basketball team from Macau also played their second game in as many days. However, just like their male counterparts, the team lost its second straight game and has almost an impossible chance of making it past the prelims.

The Indian women’s team, playing its first match of the Games, impressed straight away. They were running away with game after a commanding 29 points lead only after the first quarter.

The lead increased in each quarter of play as Macau only averaged 11 points a quarter while the hosts never slowed down after their early onslaught, to register their first win and start the campaign on an encouraging tone.
