NBA 2019-20: Wizards bounce back, beat Suns on the road

Washington Wizards v. Phoenix Suns
Washington Wizards v. Phoenix Suns

The Washington Wizards won 140-132 to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night in the NBA, after losing to the Denver Nuggets the previous night.

The Wizards led through the first 3 quarters, before being outscored by just 5 points by the Suns. The Suns tried to make a comeback, but ultimately the number 1 offense in the league showed why they are the on top right now. This is number 2 of 4 games that the Wizards will be playing on the road this week. With that being said, here is an analysis of the win against the Suns.

Beal bounces back

As stated in last night's analysis of the loss against the Denver Nuggets, guard Bradley Beal should bounce back after underperforming on the night, and he certainly did. Beal scored 35 points, going 11-18 FG, 9-10 FT, and 4-6 3PT. He had 2 assists and 6 rebounds as well alongside those numbers. Unlike against the Nuggets who are the number 1 defense, Beal was able to play like the All-Star shooting guard he is against a Suns team that isn't as good on the defensive side of the ball.

Ish Smith makes a statement

In the previous analysis, we discussed how point guard Isaiah Thomas could possibly be benched if he continues to underperform. Well, he performed better than the last game, guard Ish Smith scored 21 points coming off the bench. Smith went 8-11 FG, 3-3 FT, and 2-3 3PT. This is certainly a rare performance from Smith. Not having All-Star John Wall on the team is problematic, since the point guard position is not set at all. Nonetheless, don't be surprised if Smith takes the starting job again soon.

Bertans, Bryant raise the roof

Center Thomas Bryant has been under the radar for quite some time, but he certainly hasn't been quiet at all. Tonight, he scored 23 points and grabbed 9 rebounds with 5 assists. He went 9-11 FG, 3-3 FG, and 2-2 3PT which was amazing. Forward Davis Bertans also contributed to the high scoring game, racking up 16 points and going 4-8 3PT. The pairing of Bertans and Bryant was certainly beneficial for the team towards the end of the game, but we won't see this pair quite often due to the irregular rotations from head coach Scott Brooks.

What's next?

The Wizards head to Staples Center on Friday night to face the Los Angeles Lakers. Tune-in at 10:30 ET.
