Scoring a triple-double is a very prestigious achievement and talks about the player's all-round ability to impact the game. Throughout the history of the game, we have seen some legendary players who were known for their ability to post triple-doubles on a nightly basis.

Oscar Robertson is currently at the top of the all-time triple-doubles leaders' list with 181 triple-doubles. Russell Westbrook became the first NBA player to average a triple-double over the season for two consecutive years(2016-17, 2017-18).

There have been very few games in the NBA when two teammates recorded a triple-double in the same game. Let us take a look at three such games where this rare landmark was reached.

Bird's stat line: 17 points, 13 rebounds, 12 assists and a steal on 43.8 % shooting

Parish's stat line: 14 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, 2 blocks and steal on 50.0 % shooting

Larry Bird and Robert Parish were part of the Celtics' Big 3 involving Kevin McHale and the trio led the Celtics to three NBA Championships. The Celtics were a force to reckon with during the Big 3 era and dismantled the oppositions without any difficulty.

During the 1986-87 season, the Celtics were 52-19 and visited Philadelphia for a game against the Sixers. Larry Bird had 17 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists on the night in 40 minutes of action. He went 7-for-16 from the field, with a field-goal percentage of 43.8.

Parish too had himself a night and scored 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to put together a triple-double. He was also effective on the defensive end and swatted 2 blocks along with a steal.

Carter's stat line: 46 points,16 rebounds,10 assists,1 steal and 3 blocks on 57.1 % shooting

Kidd's stat line: 10 points, 16 rebounds, 18 assists and 4 steals on 33.3 % shooting

Vince Carter and Jason Kidd are two legendary basketball players and created a major impact on the game of basketball at around the same time. While Jason Kidd is a hall-of-fame inductee and 2001 NBA Champion, Carter is currently in his 21st season in the NBA, playing for the Atlanta Hawks.

Carter and Kidd were on the New Jersey Nets during the 2006-07 NBA season. When the Nets were up against the Washington Wizards, Carter exploded for 46 points on a red-hot 16-for-28 shooting, to go along with 16 rebounds and 10 assists.

Jason Kidd also had a monster night and had 10 points, 16 rebounds and 18 assists. Although Kidd was not very efficient from the field(4-for-12), he stuffed the stat sheet and helped the Nets defeat the Wizards, 120-114.

Kareem's stat line: 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks on 69.2 % shooting

Magic's stat line: 26 points, 16 rebounds, 12 assists on 66.6 % shooting

Two names that need no introduction, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson made their way to this unique list. During the 1981-82 NBA season, after defeating the New Jersey Nets at home, the Lakers hosted the Detroit Pistons, who were coming off a win against the San Diego Clippers.

Kareem had 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks for a triple-double. He went 9-for-13 from the field, at 69.2 % shooting and was an absolute monster on defense.

Magic Johnson came off the bench and scored team-high 26 points on 10-for-15 shooting. He was 6-for-9 from the free-throw line and also had 16 rebounds along with 12 assists to put together a triple-double in 38 minutes of action. The Los Angeles Lakers went on to win the game, 123-111.
