NBA G-League Player Collapses, Rushed to Hospital

A scary moment occurred in an NBA G-League game between the Long Island Nets and the Grand Rapids Drive Saturday night in Michigan. With only 40 seconds remaining, Drive forward Zeke Upshaw appeared to collapse on the court after making a defensive stop. The broadcast did not originally show what happened to Upshaw, but it was described as a sudden collapse that sent trainers and doctors from both teams in Upshaw's side.

Shortly after arriving, trainers called over EMTs and a stretcher took Upshaw off the court and out of the arena. According to the director of public relations for the Drive, Upshaw was transferred to Spectrum Health Hospital in Grand Rapids, but she did not give any more information on what type of injury or his condition at the time. According to Wood TV 8 in Grand Rapids, Upshaw suffered a Cardiac event and is currently in critical condition. However, that information has not been confirmed by the team, league or family.

Upshaw's teammates ended up finishing the remaining 40 seconds of the game where they defeating the Nets 101-99 to clinch the final playoff spot in the NBA G-League playoffs. Upshaw, in his second season playing for the Drive, the G-League affiliate of the NBA's Detroit Pistons, played 28 minutes before collapsing, finishing with 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.

Entering Saturday's game Upshaw averaged 8.5 points per game and 2.3 rebounds per game. Upshaw spent three of his four NCAA eligible years at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois before transferring to Hofstra in Hempsted, New York for his final year. He is originally from Chicago, Illinois.

The Grand Rapids Drive or the NBA G-League have not sent out an official update or release on Upshaw's condition, leaving fans worried and hoping for the best. We will give you an update once it comes available.
