The new NBA season continued to excite yesterday with some close games that went down to the wire and some mammoth performances. Kyrie Irving had a field day on his Brooklyn Nets debut although his 50-point effort wasn't enough to see off the Minnesota Timberwolves. Meanwhile, Andre Drummond led the Detroit Pistons to a road win against Indiana on the back of a monstrous 32-point and 23-rebound effort.
Having said that, there's much to look forward to in today's NBA matchups. Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks are all set to kickstart their new campaign while the new-look Golden State Warriors will be participating in the headline game of the day. Players to watch out for
Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors)
After Kevin Durant's departure, Steph Curry is undeniably Steve Kerr's go-to man and the Warriors head coach has talked at length about the 2-time MVP being at his peak mentally and physically. A 40-point outing in 25 minutes against the Minnesota Timberwolves in preseason just gave a good reminder of Curry's skill-set and he'll undeniably be looking to light things up in the Warriors' season opener.
Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks)
More than 50% of the league's GMs opted for Giannis Antetokounmpo as the likeliest player to win the MVP award again this season. The Greek Freak has literally been carrying the franchise on his back since 2016 and it doesn't look like he'll stop anytime soon. He led Milwaukee to the first seed in the East on the back of 27.7 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game last season and is likely to build on that this time around.
James Harden (Houston Rockets)
The Beard had an unprecedented scoring run in the 2018-19 NBA season, where he scored 30 or more points in 32 straight games. Many also believed that just in terms of stats, James Harden should have pipped Giannis for the MVP award. It will be interesting to see how Harden's offense shapes up following the addition of Russell Westbrook this offseason. However, it goes without saying that on any given day, he's still a bucket-machine.
