One of the most iconic players to ever play the game of basketball, Allen Iverson was known for his handles and skill using which he beat even the best of the defenders with ease. He was known for his deadly crossover and was the 2001 regular season MVP.

The Philadelphia legend was inducted into the hall of fame in 2016 and his jersey no.3 was retired by the 76ers' organization. The 14-year veteran spent most of his playing career with the 76ers franchise and carried the team to NBA finals during his MVP season but failed to win the title, against the Shaq and Kobe's Los Angeles Lakers.

However, he was appreciated for his excellent performance in Game 1 of the series where they handed the Lakers, a shocking defeat.

Let us take a look at six of Allen Iverson's highest-scoring games in the NBA.


#6 54 vs Toronto Raptors, May 9, 2001

Stat line: 54 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal on 53.8 % shooting

In the 2001 NBA playoffs, the Philadelphia 76ers were pitted against the Toronto Raptors in the eastern conference semifinals matchup. The Raptors stunned the crowd and won Game 1 of the series in a very close contest, by three points.

Game 2 was a must-win game for the Sixers and Iverson brought out his best once again as he exploded for 54 points on 21-for-39, including 3-for-5 from long range. He also had an incredible fourth quarter where he scored 19 points and the 76ers were able to tie the series, 1-1.

The 76ers would eventually win this series in seven games and this playoffs series is widely acclaimed as one of the greatest of all-time.

#5 54 at Milwaukee Bucks, December 18, 2004

Stat line: 54 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals on 58.6 % shooting

Allen Iverson scored 54 points in a game against the Milwaukee Bucks, including red-hot 33 points in the first half to blow out the Bucks.

He finished the night on 17-for-29 shooting from the floor, including 4-for-7 from behind the arc and the Bucks' defence had no answer to 'The Answer' as he danced on the defenders and scored effortlessly.

Stat line: 54 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and a block on 66.7 % shooting

The Philadelphia 76ers got off to a hot start during the 2000-01 season and were 23-8 when they visited the Gund Arena for a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Iverson's 54-points monster performance helped the 76ers roll past the Cavs.

It was a competitive game and the Sixers were up by 2 points at the end of the first quarter, with Allen Iverson scoring as many as 15 points. He continued his domination in the second quarter and the 76ers led 56-48 at the end of two quarters.

In the third quarter, with 01.1 sec remaining, Iverson made an 18-foot jumper to extend the visitors' lead to 8 points. However, the Cavs did not give up and kept fighting for the win. With less than 3 minutes remaining in the final quarter, Iverson made a clutch jump shot to extend the lead to 6 points and the 76ers eventually won the game, 107-103.

Stat line: 55 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals on 65.6 % shooting

In the 2001-02 season, the Philadelphia 76ers lost to the Boston Celtics in the first round of playoffs in a well fought five games (2-3). They came into the 2002-03 season hoping to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Allen Iverson went off in the first round of the 2003 playoffs against the New Orleans Hornets and scored 58 points on a brilliant 21-for-32 shooting to give the 76ers their first win of the series (1-0). He started the game hot and scored 13 points in the first quarter and the Sixers took a 27-20 lead.

It was a five-point game at halftime and the 2001 MVP had 25 points. In the third quarter, at 0:39.6 mark, Iverson shot a 26-foot three-pointer to give the Sixers a two-point lead.

In the final period of the regulation, Iverson was lights out and scored 20 points as he single-handedly led the 76ers to the win. He finished the night shooting at a brilliant 21-for-32 from the field, including 3-for-5 from long range. The Sixers went on to win this series in six games.

#2 58 vs Houston Rockets, January 15, 2002

Stat line: 58 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals on 50 % shooting

After defeating the San Antonio Spurs, on the back of 37-points performance from Iverson, the 76ers hosted the Houston Rockets at First Union Center. Iverson scored 58 points and led the Sixers past the Rockets.

Iverson missed his first four shots, before making the next four and quickly got back to form. He went on to score 14 points in the first quarter and the 76ers took a 24-19 lead. With Iverson scoring only 6 points in the second quarter, the Rockets stormed back to take a 51-46 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Iverson went off and at the end of three quarters, he had 37 points but the 76ers were down by 8 points. 'The Answer' continued his form into the fourth quarter and scored 7 straight points for the Sixers to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, it was again Iverson who scored 7 points to help the home team to a 112-106 victory. He also hit two free throws to put the Sixers up by 6 points and finished the contest with 58 points.

#1 60 vs Orlando Magic, February 12, 2005

Stat line: 60 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals and a block on 47.2 % shooting

The Philadelphia 76ers were at home for a game against the Orlando Magic, who were coming off a win against the Atlanta Hawks. Iverson carried the team on his back and exploded for career-high 60 points to lead the 76ers past the Magic.

Iverson started the proceedings with a layup, off an assist from Iguodala to give the team an early 2-point lead. The Sixers went on a 4-13 run and ended the first quarter, 31-22 with Iverson scoring 17 points.

The Sixers would build on the momentum from the first quarter and take a 62-44 lead at halftime. Iverson had 29 points and he did not show any signs of slowing down.

The Magic just did not have any firepower to take on an efficient Iverson and the Sixers and 'The Answer' ended the game with 60 points. He scored 20 points in the final quarter and the 76ers won this contest, 112-99.
