NBA Trade Rumors: DeMar DeRozan could make stunning return to Toronto Raptors

What's the rumor?

The San Antonio Spurs have made an underwhelming start to the new season, and it is believed that the front office is open to making big changes as they aim to refresh shake up a roster that is heading in the wrong direction.

DeMar DeRozan is among the veteran names that have been linked with an exit, and an unnamed league executive told Frank Urbina of Hoops Hype that a return to the Toronto Raptors is possible:

"It sounds crazy, but Toronto actually makes a lot of sense as a landing spot for DeRozan, another Western Conference executive said. 'As far as what Toronto is giving up, it would probably have to be a first-round pick plus Serge Ibaka or Marc Gasol.'"

DeRozan was selected ninth overall by the Raptors back in 2009, and the California native established himself as a key piece in a team that was among the annual contenders in the East. However, following nine hugely successful years with the team, DeRozan was included in the trade that sent Kawhi Leonard to Toronto last summer - a move that eventually landed the franchise its first championship.

DeRozan performed well in his first season with the Spurs, averaging 21.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game - although talks over a new contract have stalled in recent months, and San Antonio may want to go in a younger direction.

DeRozan departed the Raptors in controversial circumstances, although the 30-year-old has made no secret of how much the organization means to him. The shooting guard could also help Toronto out in the short-term, and if they only have to give up Serge Ibaka and a future pick - the Raptors should seriously consider bringing him back.
