Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors fell 134-126 to the LA Clippers on Wednesday night. However, Curry still finished with a game-high 50 points to go along with two rebounds, six assists, two steals and eight 3-pointers on 71.4% shooting.
Curry’s performance had Warriors coach Steve Kerr in awe, who raved postgame about what it’s like to watch Curry when he’s in the zone offensively:
“It’s like when a guy’s throwing a no-hitter, just leave him alone,” Kerr said.
“Let him sit in the dugout in between innings and don’t say anything to him. It was stunning watching that show tonight. Watching some of the shot-making, the playmaking. We’re so lucky on so many levels to coach Steph, to play with Steph.
“Our fans, being able to watch Steph, he puts on a great show every night. But this ranks right up there with some of the greatest individual performances that I’ve ever seen from him,” he added.
Curry’s 50 points tied his season high. It also marked the 12th time he has scored 50-plus points over his illustrious 14-year career.
The Clippers, on the other hand, were led by star forward Kawhi Leonard. Leonard finished with 30 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals on 52.6% shooting.
LA Clippers and Golden State Warriors updated playoff seeding
Wednesday’s game also had major playoff-seeding implications for both the Golden State Warriors and the LA Clippers. The Clippers and Warriors entered the night tied for fifth seed in the West, with the Warriors having the tiebreaker. However, following their win, the Clippers (37-33) have now overtaken the Warriors (36-34) to claim sole possession of the fifth seed.
The Clippers are also just half a game behind the fourth-seeded Phoenix Suns (37-32). So after winning four straight games, it appears that LA are on the brink of securing homecourt advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Golden State are just one game ahead of the seventh-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves (35-35). As of now, the Warriors are narrowly avoiding the play-in picture.
Golden State will next play against Atlanta (34-35, eighth in the East) on Friday. LA will next play against Orlando (28-41, 13th in the East) on Saturday.
