Shaquille O'Neal with a Slam Dunk
Shaquille O'Neal with a Slam Dunk

A slam dunk is indeed the most electrifying move in the game of basketball. This move is a perfect combination of leaping ability, strength and creativity of a dunker. It's like poetry in motion which starts with leaving the ground and coming back; what happens in-between is absolutely awe-inspiring for the viewers.

A dunk is majestic to watch but when it is followed by an opponent getting "posterized" it becomes legendary. The thrill and satisfaction must be other-worldly for the dunker.

Let us re-live the most humiliating, the jaw-dropping and the best in-game dunks of all time and the intensity surrounding them.

#5 Blake Griffin's monster dunk on Kendrick Perkins

The intensity and prowess that Blake Griffin dunks have are worth witnessing. The high-flying, fearless and vicious poster boy is a joy to watch every time he holds the ball and rams his way to the basket.

He has many slam dunk posters to his name but this dunk, in particular, is the most devastating of them all. Perkins can definitely testify that being the victim of the act.

This dunk came off the pass from Chris Paul. Griffin gave Paul the screen and quickly cut into the lane. Paul saw him open and dropped a bounce pass to him. Everything was simple but then entered Kendrick Perkins with his massive built.

He would have left the ground for tenth-of-a-second and Blake was already over him and then came a thunderous slam dunk. The best part about the dunk - GRIFFIN HARDLY TOUCHED THE RIM.

#4 Dwyane Wade giving Adreson Varejao his "Kodak Moment"

In 2009, LeBron James and his team were visiting the Miami Heat. With 4 minutes left in the first quarter, James tried to dunk over Jermaine O'Neal and got blocked. Wade got hold of the ball and started moving towards the Cavs basket.

Before the defense could have realized what was happening, the Flash was high up in the air and came down thunderously on a meek-looking Anderson Varejao. Varejao went body-down to the floor and Wade stepped over him like Iverson once did over Lue.

Upset about the dunk, Varejao exchanged some words with Wade and both were given a technical. The Cavaliers won the match 111-104 but the damage that Wade did that day will remain with them throughout the history of the game.

LeBron James who considers D-Wade like his brother had praise for him when asked about the dunk.

“It was great, probably top 10 all-time. That was an unbelievable play by a great player.” James said.

#3 Scottie Pippen's dunk on Patrick Ewing

Scottie Pippen is a name which has always been taken alongside Michael Jordan. But this moment was all about him. In fact, it is considered the best individual moment of Pippen's career by fans around the world.

In the Game 6 of the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals, Pippen unleashed a thunderous dunk over Ewing. Ewing was known to be a punishing shot-blocker but this time the tables turned and they turned against him bad.

The play happened really fast. A block at the Bulls' end; Armstrong bringing the ball past half-court for a fast break; he passed the ball to his right wing where Pete Myers was in the lane; Myers dished the touch pass to a raging Pippen. And rest all was for the crowd to cherish.

Pippen considers the Ewing Dunk as unarguably the best slam of his career.

“That’s probably got to be at the top,” he said. “Any time you dunk over a seven-footer and a so-called shot blocker, it’s something. It’s probably one of the most replayed dunks of mine that you see.”

#2 DeAndre Jordan's dunk on Brandon Knight

DeAndre Jordan left the world dumbstruck when he delivered this barbaric dunk on the then Pistons guard Brandon Knight.

Chris Paul threw him an alley-oop while he was cutting in from the free-throw line. The 7-feet center caught the ball mid-air and threw down a humongous slam. The sound of it was enough to know the intensity Jordan had delivered it with.

Brandon Knight seemed to have no idea why he had jumped and tried to contest it in the first place. He came down hard to the ground and decided to stay down for a couple of seconds after being victimized by Jordan. Leave alone the Staples Center, the entire world went crazy after witnessing this dunk.

Players have been dunked on for ages but this was something else. In less than a day, this dunk was on the verge of being named Dunk of the Year when fans took it to Youtube, Twitter and other social media platforms.

#1 Shaquille O'Neal's "revenge dunk" on Chris Dudley

This dunk has been named "the most disrespectful dunk ever" and it has all the reasons of being named that.

This poster dunk dates back to 1999 in a match-up between Lakers and Knicks. Chris Dudley and Shaquille O'Neal already had some bad blood over the foul troubles and physical match-ups between the two. Dudley had previously committed a flagrant against Shaq which was called a cheap-shot by the Lakers.

Shaq got the pass in the low-post area and started going towards the basket thudding against Dudley. Shaq made a spin move, rammed down the dunk and shoved Dudley to the floor.

For a big man like Dudley, getting owned by Shaq was too much and he couldn't take it. In retaliation, Dudley threw the ball at Shaq and had some hot words for him. Both Shaq and Dudley got technicals apiece but Shaq had the last laugh in the tussle between the big men.
