USA Basketball announces 19-man roster for 2014 men's national team training camp

While the FIFA World Cup came to a close on Sunday with Germany winning their fourth trophy, basketball fans across the world have another international competition to look forward to – the FIBA World Cup. The event is to be held in Spain from the 30th of August to the 14th of September this year and will consist of 24 teams split into four groups of 6.

Kevin Durant and Kevin Love – the only two players who were members of the 2012 Olympics and 2010 World Championships gold medalist teams.

USA Basketball Chairman and National Team Managing Director Jerry Colangelo announced today in Colorado the 19 players who were selected to take part in the Pre-World Cup Training Program from July 28th to August 1st in Las Vegas.

These are the 19 players who have been named as the 2014-16 USA basketball national team. Out of the roster, two players – DeMar DeRozan and Chandler Parsons – have only been recently added to the roster for their most recent standout NBA season.

The squad contains four players from the 2012 Olympic gold medalist team (Durant, Love, Davis and Harden) while it also contains four players from the 2010 World Championship gold medalist team (Durant, Love, Curry and Rose). 11 of these players attended the 2013 USA basketball men’s national team mini-camp (Beal, Cousins, Davis, DeRozan, Drummond, George, Hayward, Irving, Lillard, Parsons and Thompson).

A pretty strong coaching team too

The Head Coach of the 2014-16 USA Basketball team is Duke University mentor and Naismith Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski, while the rest of the coaching staff features the following as assistant coaches :

– Tom Thibodeau (Head Coach of the Chicago Bulls)

– Monty Williams (Head Coach of the New Orleans Pelicans)

– Jim Boeheim (Naismith Hall of Famer and coach of the Sycrause University)

The USA World Cup team is drawn in Group C of the competition along with nations such as Dominican Republic, Finland, New Zealand, Turkey and Ukraine.
