Boxing marked its beginning at the 1954 Asian Games held at Manila, Philippines. The sport for both men and women athletes and numerous countries take part in the competition.
South Korea has been leading the medal table by a considerable margin. The country has earned a total of 113 medals, 58 of which are gold. Thailand sits on the second position with 68 medals, including 20 gold followed by Kazakhstan with 39 medals, 16 of which are gold.
Asian Games 2018 Boxing
The 2018 Asian Games Boxing will be held at the Jakarta International Expo Hall C1, C2 & C3 Jakarta, Indonesia from 24 August to 1 September 2018. There are 31 nations participating in the boxing event, the competition will include 210 boxers.
The boxing event will consist of men’s and women’s competition which is further divided into categories depending on the weight of the participants. Men’s competition will showcase Light flyweight(49kg), Flyweight(52kg), Bantamweight(56kg), Lightweight(60kg), Light welterweight(64 kg), Welterweight(69kg) and Middleweight(75kg) categories.
The women’s competition will showcase Flyweight(51kg), Bantamweight(57kg) and Lightweight(60kg) categories.
India is on the number eight spot when it comes to medals in boxing at the Asian Games. The South Asian country has a total of 55 medals, eight of which are gold, 16 silver and 31 bronze.
There are Indian athletes who have the potential to shine at Jakarta. Two time bronze medalist at 2018 - India Open International and Ulaanbaatar Cup, Shiva Thapa in 60 kg category. Vikas Krishan Yadav in the 75 Kg category, silver medalist at 2018 Ulaanbaatar Cup in Mongolia, Sarjubala Devi in 51 Kg category.
2014 Asian Games Boxing Results
The 2014 Asian Games Boxing was held in Seonhak Gymnasium, Incheon, South Korea. 216 boxers from 34 nations participated in the event.
Kazakhstan won six gold medals, followed by South Korea who also managed to win two golds.

In the women’s boxing competition, India’s Mary Kom managed to win gold in the Flyweight category, followed by Yin Junhua of China won the Lightweight category and Jang Un-hui of North Korea in the Middleweight category.
