Mary Kom makes us merry each time

Mary Kom

Mary Kom is my inspiration. I am one of her biggest fans for the last one decade. I impatiently wait to watch her fights. She has never disappointed us either. She has been the world women’s amateur boxing champion for six times. Mary Kom is the first woman to do so in the history of women’s boxing.

Kom has always inspired me to do well even in tough times. This 31 year old athlete has gone through many hardships of life during her childhood. She was born to a poor tribal family at one of the small villages in Manipur. The little Kom had helped her parents immensely during her childhood. She took care of her younger siblings and also worked with her father at a farm. Kom’s tough childhood couldn’t defy her ambition to play for India.

A true inspiration

Today, Mary Kom is an inspiration to millions worldwide, but it was Dingko Singh who was the source of motivation for this talented athlete before her Boxing debut. Dingko also belongs to Manipur and is the gold medalist boxer. He made headlines by winning a Gold medal at 13th Asian Games, held in Bangkok. This event has greatly motivated Mary to consider boxing as her career. Later, she had gone through a lot of rigorous training schedules to achieve her dream.

When Mary debuted at the boxing arena in 2000, many had undermined the capacity of this petite athlete. No one knew that she was the champion in the making. Eventually, Mary had cleared all doubts and today she is undisputedly one of the top women boxers in the world.

Each time I watch her interview on news channels or websites, I get mesmerized by her sweet demeanor. She is calm, composed and a down-to-earth woman. She stays as non-controversial as ever. Kom has never been into spotlight for wrong reasons. She is definitely an inspiring factor for many hard working youngsters. It is due to her inspiration in my real life that I don’t get disheartened too easily and always strive to do better.

The Legacy

Mary Kom is a legend now. Her success has not only brought so many laurels to the nation, but continued to motivate us through her hard work and never-say die attitude. Currently, the ace boxer is grooming younger talents at her home state- Manipur. She is providing free boxing skills to little children. The Samaritan approach of Mary makes her a legend in true terms.

Mary Kom attained the status of a youth icon as soon as she stepped her foot in the world of Boxing. She has performed brilliantly throughout her career. She always encourages the performer within us to try our best at whatever we do. Over the last couple of years, there has been a widespread craze to know more about her. In 2013, she came up with an autobiography unbreakable to highlight the hardship of her life. The book was published by Harper Collins and many of its copies got sold as soon as it was launched. Many see only the success of a sportsperson without realizing the pain with which they went through in their real lives.

A couple of months back Mary Kom – the film was released featuring Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra. The film has been critically acclaimed and audience got their eyes filled with tears while coming out of theatres. You can now very well imagine the pain with which the Real Mary went through in her actual life.

The Magnificent Mary

‘Magnificent Mary’ is a proud mom of three children. In 2013 she was blessed with her third baby. Mary played her roles as a perfect woman; a daughter, sister, mother and a loving wife. Her family life couldn’t stop her from accomplishing medals for the nation. She has fulfilled her responsibility impeccably at both her professional and family life.

The happiest moment for the nation came in the year 2012, when Kom won a Bronze medal at summer Olympics held in London. This spectacular achievement has been truly an awe-inspiring moment for all Indians. It was the first time a woman boxer from India won an Olympic medal. Before 2012, Women Boxing was not included in the Olympic Games.

The next Olympics will be held in Rio De Janerio in 2016. It is expected that Magnificent Mary will win Gold medal for the nation this time and make us proud once again. I am sure she will do it.
