Indian boxers Vanshaj and Aman Singh Bisht won their respective youth men’s semi-final bouts at the 2022 ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. They dominated their respective games in Amman, Jordan on Saturday (March 12).
The last edition’s silver medallist Vanshaj (63.5kg) knocked out Syria’s Ahmad Nabaa with the referee stopping the contest verdict in the first round. Whereas Aman (+92kg) took up an aggressive approach to secure a convincing 4-0 win over Kazakhstan’s Tim Ofeypotashov.
Earlier on Friday, Indian youth boxers Vishwanath Suresh and Anand Yadav sailed through to the finals of the 2022 ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships.
Vishwanath (48 kg), Vanshaj and Aman secured identical victories against their respective opponents. They joined other Indian boxers who are in the fray to win gold in the boxing competition. All three Indians will feature in the youth men's finals on Monday (March 14).
Anand Yadav (54kg) progressed into the finals with a close 3-2 win against Uzbekistan’s Abduvali Buriboev. He unfortunately had to end his campaign with a bronze medal after the opponent protested and the decision was reversed.
Indian performances in the youth section of 2022 ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships
As many as 15 boxers, including 11 girls and four boys, will fight for the gold medal during the junior finals scheduled for Sunday.
With 21 medals in the junior section and 18 in the youth section, the Indian contingent has secured 39 medals at the prestigious continental tournament. Both the age groups of men and women—youth and junior—are being played together at the tournament.
The continental showpiece saw as many as 352 boxers participating from 21 countries. This includes India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The finals will take place on March 13 and 14.
During the last edition of the tournament, which was held in Dubai in 2021, India concluded their campaign with 39 medals including 14 gold.
