Ind vs Eng 2018: 2 Indian players who should have been picked for the remaining two Test matches against England

England v India: Specsavers 3rd Test - Day Five
England v India: Specsavers 3rd Test - Day Five

India won the third Test match comfortably against England and showed a great character after losing the first two Test matches. The Test series has taken an interesting turn after India's victory at the Trent Bridge. However, England is still leading the series by 2-1 and India needs to be victorious in the remaining two matches to win the Test Series.

The Indian fans were disappointed after their team's dismal show in the first two Test matches. In fact, the team was under criticism after a horrible batting performance at the Lords. Therefore, the memorable win in the third Test has brought relief after two humiliating losses.

Meanwhile, the Indian selectors picked the squad for the last two Test matches. In fact, two changes have been made in the squad. The Test specialist Murali Vijay was dropped alongside spinner Kuldeep Yadav.

Prithvi Shaw and Hanuma Vihari are the two new faces who are set to join the squad for the last two games. Both the batsmen are immensely talented and they have scored plenty of runs in the domestic cricket last season. However, there are some players who were not fortunate enough to get picked.

Here we discuss 2 Indian players who could have been picked by the Indian selectors:

#2 Mohammed Siraj

England Lions v India A - Day Three
Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj is an extremely talented pacer who has been bowling consistently well in the domestic cricket. He was ignored by the selectors because India's bowling performance has been noteworthy in the ongoing Test series. In fact, the selectors added two new batsmen to the squad after dropping Murali Vijay and Kuldeep Yadav. Therefore, it suggests that the selectors are more worried about the batting unit than the bowling unit.

Meanwhile, pacer Shardul Thakur is the part of the Indian Test team. Thakur has not played any Test match in England yet. But given Siraj's impressive form in the domestic Cricket, he should have been picked ahead of Shardul Thakur. The 24- year bowler from Hyderabad has an awe-inspiring domestic cricket record. As a matter of fact, he has taken 57 wickets in just 15 first-class matches with a bowling average of 21.

Furthermore, he was the highest wicket-taker for Hyderabad in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy season as he took 41 wickets in the season. He took the highest number of wickets in the Vijay Hazare Trophy this year. He had 23 wickets to his name in just 7 matches.

Siraj made his India debut against New Zealand in a T20I match. However, the pacer is still waiting for his maiden Test call. If Siraj continues his exceptional bowling form, he is not far away from getting his maiden Test cap.

#1 Mayank Agarwal

England Lions v India A - Tri-Series International
Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal is an uncapped player but has been on the radar of selectors for his incredible domestic form. He has been knocking on the doors of the selectors for quite some time now. The talented batsman can be an asset to the Indian Test team if he replicates his domestic form in International cricket.

He has played 34 first-class matches for Karnataka and has a batting average of 48. He was undoubtedly one of the best Indian domestic players of the last season. For instance, he scored a top-notch triple hundred last year against Maharashtra. He was the highest run-getter of 2017-18 Ranji Trophy season. He finished with 1160 runs at an average of 105.45.

Agarwal scored a total of 2141 runs in the 2017-18 season, which was highest ever total of any player in a single Indian domestic season. Hence, he should have been picked by the Indian selectors for the last two Test matches. However, if he can maintain his splendid batting form, then he is not far away from making a debut.
