Cricket is often known as a slow sport, but the emergence of T20 leagues and the batsmen with fearless approach have changed the notion. Anyone would love to see the ball sailing over the fence other than the bowler; well that’s just how it has been. With the introduction of T20 leagues, the game has taken a giant leap in the number of people pouring into the stadium. There has been the innovation of shots like never before; while fans enjoy seeing those shots, batsmen try hard to execute them with perfection. The game demands batsmen to be fearless.

Here is the list of top 3 fearless batsmen till date.

#1 Virender Sehwag:

Sehwag, often known as the Sultan (King) of batting for his fearless approach, was one of the most successful batsmen during his period.

What makes him fearless is his attacking approach from the very first ball, no matter what format it was (ODI, Tests or T20). Sehwag had the aura that would scare any bowler because he just did one thing, hit the ball to the fence; his hard-hitting skills and giving his team a lightning start were his attributes as a batsman.

His inning of 309 against Pakistan in Multan is a "Masterclass'. It was March 29, 2004, when he became the first Indian to ever reach this milestone by smashing a huge six off Saqlain Mushtaq over mid-wicket while batting at 295, now that’s fearless. He recreated the history by scoring another triple century against South Africa in 2008 in Chennai.

The high scoring character was seen in ODIs also and one of the most remarkable innings was 219 off 149 balls against West Indies as he became one of the only two batsmen to score a triple century in Test’s and a double century in ODI, the other being Chris Gayle.

He will always be remembered for his fearless approach to the game.

#2 Chris Gayle:

Chris Gayle, the Six Machine as we all call him is widely known for his destructive batting. Though he is known for the T20 format, he is one of only four batsmen to score two triple centuries in Test cricket. You would never see Gayle with fast foot movements neither will you see him trying out new shots but one thing is for sure, you will see the ball sailing over the fence when he starts to bat.

His innings of 175 off 66 balls with 17 sixes for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors in IPL (Indian premier league) speaks volumes about his destructive game. He is one of the most entertaining batsmen on the field the game has ever seen. His approach never faded as he continued to do the same in ODIs. He scored the fastest double century off 138 balls and went on to score 215 off 147 balls against Zimbabwe in 2015 World Cup. The game had never seen batsmen so fearless like this before.

#3 Sir Vivian Richards:

Sir. Viv - The master of all Era
Sir. Viv - The master of all Era

The name speaks it all, Sir Viv was one of the first players who made the game look so easy with his ability to outplay any kind bowling attack in any part of the world.

Sir Viv had the spotlight right away after he made the test debut against India in 1974, where he scored an unbeaten 192 in the second test of the same series in Delhi and later went onto score 8540 run with a staggering average of 50.24 in tests. He had the same momentum in the ODI format also, scoring 6721 runs with an average of 47.01.

Sir Viv is known for his immense dominance over any bowling attack and nobody even dared to sledge him and get into trouble. His ability to drive the balls was so on top of his game that it seemed he was holding a toy bat and steering it all around.

His cricket attire was quite famous among the young guns at that time as he never wore a helmet. His selection of shots and the sweet sound that the bat made had everybody wonder about how Sir Viv was changing the way game was played. Sir Viv was one of the major pioneers of the attacking style of the game we see today. He truly justifies the tag of ‘Fearless Batsman’
