The Chennai Super Kings are the current defending IPL champions, having returned to the tournament last season after two years of suspension. Despite not playing the tournament for two long years, they gelled quite well as a team and hence looked quite dominant last season.

Interestingly they have retained almost the entire squad except for three players. With 10.40 crores left, CSK will have to spend cleverly on three players they can buy at the auction. Despite having a formidable team, the Chennai Super Kings need to have adequate backup in each department and hence should complete their squad with some quality buys at the auction.

Let us have a look at the two players that CSK should target at the auction.

#2 Mohit Sharma

Mohit Sharma

Mohit Sharma has been one of the best finds of the IPL concerning an Indian bowler. He has adapted quite well in this format due to his ability to ball well disguised slower balls which are quite tricky to put away. He also has developed various variations in this regard, has improved his yorkers to a great extent in the recent seasons and hence is one of the specialist death bowlers in IPL.

In 84 matches, Mohit Sharma has picked up 90 wickets at an average of 26.64 and economy rate of 8.40. Having been a part of the Chennai Super Kings team for three years, his performances for them helped him get a place in India's 2015 World Cup squad. With the current retained CSK pacers such as Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur being potential run leakers, the management needs to buy at the auction an Indian pacer who is a good death bowler. Hence, Mohit Sharma could complete that criteria for them.

#1 Saurabh Tiwary

Saurabh Tiwary is a decent middle-order batsman quite useful for any IPL team. He was at his peak when he was playing for the Mumbai Indians in 2008. Since then he has been entirely inconsistent and hence has found himself on the bench. Despite this, he is a good slogger in the death overs and therefore can take the game away from the opposition.

In 81 matches, Saurabh Tiwary has 1276 runs at an average of 28.35 and strike rate of 119.58. In addition to this, he has played for four different IPL teams in his career so far.

On the other hand, the Chennai Super Kings need a suitable Indian middle-order batsman who can be a good backup for them. Hence, Saurabh Tiwary can be a good option for this role and thus strengthen the CSK squad.
