Is a good IPL performance enough?

The Indian Premier League has proven to be a great platform for the upcoming players to showcase their talent and earn a ticket to play for their respective national side. Performing well in the IPL has also became an important aspect for the national selectors to pick them for the country's time apart from their performances in other domestic tournaments.

The Indian team has been lucky to find players like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadava and Yuzvendra Chahal who are majorly furnished by playing in this 20-over tournament only. These players have also continues with their form in international arena as well and not just limiting themselves to this cash-rich event.

But here are three such players who have done well in IPL and failed to capitalize it to their national side in any of the three formats.

#1 Dwayne Smith (West Indies)

The West Inddies all rounder Dwayne Smith has been an asset for every IPL franchise for which he has played for. Smith brings a perfect balance to the team with his hard hitting abilities at the top and bowling some quick medium pace overs in middle of the innings.

His IPL success earned him a ticket in the national side but he couldn't convert the chances. Compared to his IPL career where he has amassed over 2400 runs in 91 matches at a decent average of over 28 with a strike rate of 135+, his T20I numbers don't look similar as he has an average of just a little over 18 in the 33 matches that he has played.

Similar is the case with his One-day Internationals and Test numbers as well with both bat and ball and hence, was dropped from the national side.

#2 Chris Lynn (Australia)

The second name in this list is of Australian stylish opener Chris Lynn who has played some really match winning knocks for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League but failed to do so for his national side, Australia.

The right handed batsman has just played 28 IPL games till now in which he has scored 875 runs at an average of 35 and a strike-rate of whopping 141.13 but the story is not the same when we look at his numbers for Australia. In the 22 limited over games in which he has appeared for Australia, he averages around 19 with a strike rste of just over 100.

Though it has not been too long since he started playing for Australia but soon needs to start firing as with the arrival of Smith and Warner in the side, it will be difficult for him to sustain in the side without performing.

#3 Albie Morkel (South Africa)

Another all rounder appears in this list and this time it is from South Africa and the name is of Albie Morkel. The Protean has produced some of the great match winning performances which majorly came for the yellow army Channai Super Kings.

The 37-year old featured in over 90 IPL games in which he scored runs at an average of over 24 and a crazy strike-rate of almost 142 and played a crucial role in scoring runs at the death overs of the innings. With ball as well, he took 85 wickets by clocking at an average of around 27.75.

But for South Africa, his numbers weren't this impressive as has an overall batting average of around 22 and a not-so-good bowling average of around 35 along with 76 wickets to his name in the limited over formats of the game.
