The Indian Premier League has seen huge sixes, classy boundaries, big totals, exciting chases, fast fifties and memorable hundreds. One of the important byproducts of the league has been the making of skillful young cricketers to the Indian team. Almost all the great players from world cricket in the modern era have performed under the banner of some IPL franchise over the last 11 years.

There have been numerous Indian stars over the course of the IPL, but some of them have not yet scored a century in the high-scoring league. Here, we take a look at the three biggest batsmen in Indian cricket who failed to reach the three-figure mark in an IPL game.

#3 MS Dhoni

Adored for his lightning-fast hands behind the wickets, MS Dhoni is the most successful wicket-keeper for India in both ODI and Test with 425 and 294 dismissals respectively.

In the Indian Premier League, Dhoni has been one of the most successful captains with three titles to his name which he won as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings.

Dhoni was bought by CSK for a whopping price amount of $1.5 million in the first ever IPL auction as the most expensive player that year.

In the IPL, Dhoni is seventh on the list of all-time highest run scorers. He has scored 4016 runs at an average of 40.16 and a strike rate of 138.18 across 175 IPL matches.

However, Dhoni has not achieved a three-digit score in the IPL despite being able to score as many as 20 fifties. In the 2018 Indian Premier League, he attained his highest score of 79 runs which came against Kings XI Punjab.

#2 Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir is certainly one of the most prominent cricketers to have played in the Indian Premier League. In the IPL, he has played 154 matches and scored 4217 runs with an average of 31.25.

Only Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma have scored more than Gambhir in the IPL. In the tournament's history, David Warner and Gambhir have scored the most half-centuries (36).

In the IPL, Gambhir started his career for Delhi Daredevils. In 2012, he moved to Kolkata Knight Riders where he led the team to two trophies in 2012 and 2014. The left-hander scored 593 runs at an exceptional strike-rate of 143.55 in the 2012 IPL.

However, Gambhir could not quite reach the three-figure mark in any of his IPL matches. In 2012, his highest score of 93 came against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens.

#3 Robin Uthappa

One of the most underappreciated cricketers in recent times, Robin Uthappa could not get an extended run in the Indian team despite performing consistently in the IPL.

Uthappa has been a consistent performer both in the domestic Indian cricket as well as the cash-rich Indian Twenty20 league. He had three great seasons with the now-defunct Pune Warriors and was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2014 IPL Auction.

In the 2014 IPL, he scored 661 runs that propelled his team to winning the championship and to him winning the Orange Cap.

Across 165 matches in many seasons of the IPL, Uthappa has amassed 4086 runs at an average of 28.56 and a strike rate of 131.51. However, he has failed to convert any of his 23 half-centuries into a century. His highest score remains 87.
