After ruling Indian cricket for over a decade, Mahindra Singh Dhoni in January 2017 stepped down as India's captain in limited overs cricket, paying the way for Virat Kohli. Before that in 2014, when Dhoni retired from Test cricket, Kohli was already handed over the job to lead the team in Tests.

Thereafter, Kohli who is considered as the opposite of cool and calm MS Dhoni, settled as the skipper and is currently leading India in all the three formats.

It is quite common in World cricket that captains come-up with some favorite players that they usually don't drop from their squads. Same has been the case with MS Dhoni, as there were several players whom he seldom missed-out on and people often remarked that they were his lucky charms.

#4 Mohit Sharma

The Haryana based medium pace bowler, Mohit Sharma made his debut for India in 2013 and last appeared in an international match in October 2015.

Mohit was one of India's regular pacers during ODI World Cup 2015, but has since been out of the scene. He has played 26 ODI's while as 8 T20I's for India and all of them came when MS Dhoni was the captain.

He was part of Chennai Super Kings in IPL and made huge successes in MSD's leadership. Having a number of variations in his bowling, Mohit was pretty handy for Dhoni in death but haven't been provided any chance after Dhoni left captaincy.

#3 Ravindra Jadeja

The southpaw all-rounder who was once India's main weapon in all the three formats is currently finding it hard to get a go in the team.

Owning 177 Test and 155 ODI wickets, Jadeja has won many matches for India, mostly under MS Dhoni's captaincy. The Saurashtra cricketer has 1196 and 1914 Test and ODI runs as well.

After Virat Kohli took over as captain of the side, Jadeja has mere appeared for India in 9 matches among the 136 ODIs he has played so far. Widely known as "Sir Jadeja", he too plays for Chennai Super Kings in IPL and has done pretty well with the ball for them over the years.

#2 Ravichandran Ashwin

Madras all-rounder, Ravi Ashwin probably needs no introduction owing to the amount of cricket he has played for the country.

The lanky off-spinner, who is counted among the all-time best spinners produced in India has been struggling lately to cement his place in the team. Since spin-duo of Chahal and Kuldeep shared success in white-ball cricket, Ashwin has played meager matches in limited overs cricket.

Likewise Jadeja, Ashwin too have just played 8 ODIs for India after January 15 when Dhoni stepped down as skipper. However, with 62 Test matches to his name, he has played a decent amount of red-ball cricket even after Dhoni's retirement.

One more Chennai Super Kings star, Suresh Raina despite having over 5500 runs in 226 ODIs hasn't been a regular part of team India in recent times.

Having seldom missed any match during MS Dhoni's leadership, Raina recently made an ODI comeback against England but was again dropped from Asia Cup squad.

The 31-year-old was an asset for Dhoni as apart from his batting, he used to provide crucial breakthroughs for him whether be it with the ball or in the field.

Nonetheless, Kohli's arrival as skipper has been an unlucky stint for the left-hander as he has struggled since to make his way into the team.
