Pujara's magnificent century against Australia at Adelaide is his third outside Asia. He has scored one century each in South Africa, England and Australia. It is often said that his record outside Asia is not so good. The latest Pujara century in Australia will go a long way in helping him to restore some balance to his record in Asia and outside.

Not only Pujara, but most of the other Indian batsmen have also got an average record outside Asia when compared to their record in Asia. Having said that, there are some Indian batsmen who have been excellent, both inside and outside Asia. The number of centuries scored outside Asia is a very good indicator of the kind of skill a batsman possesses.

Let's take a look at 5 Indian batsmen with the most number of centuries outside Asia:

#5 VVS Laxman (8)

An artist with the bat in his hand, Laxman created mayhem in opposition camp with elegance. For the most part of his career, Laxman batted at number 6 position for India. It's not easy to score big when a batsman comes to bat at number 6, as there is not much time and resources left. In spite of this limitation, Laxman managed to score 17 centuries during his Test career.

He had this special ability to bat with the tail and while doing so, he took India across the finishing line on many occasions. Out of his 17 centuries, eight centuries came outside Asia which is an indicator of how good Laxman was. He had a special liking for Australia where he scored four centuries. Laxman never scored a century in England and South Africa, which is the only blemish in his otherwise excellent Test career.

#4 Virat Kohli (11)

Arguably the greatest modern day batsman, Virat Kohli is in a position to take a shot at almost every record in the books of Test cricket. The best thing about him is the way he is improving with every game, which was evident in the way he resurrected his record in England.

Virat has scored runs all over the world and that too with supreme ease. He has scored 24 centuries so far in his Test career and 11 of those have come outside of Asia. This is an indicator of how good he has been all over the world. Like Laxman, Kohli also has a liking for Australian pitches where he has scored five centuries.

He has scored two centuries each in South Africa and England. In New Zealand and West Indies, he has scored one hundred each.

#3 Rahul Dravid (14)

The wall was instrumental in many Indian wins outside Asia. He had a knack of delivering when it mattered the most. He was a technically sound batsman, who used to play the ball very late. He was known for his long hauls at the crease and tearing the opposition bowlers out. His first hundred took a long time to come, but, once he went past that mental block, he went on to score many great centuries for India.

Dravid made 36 centuries in Test cricket and out of those 36 centuries, 14 were scored outside Asia. He scored a mammoth six centuries in English conditions, which are considered to be the most difficult to bat in. Three of his centuries came in the West Indies, while two came in New Zealand. Also, he scored one century each in Australia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

#2 Sunil Gavaskar (15)

The first superstar of the great Indian batting lineage, Sunil Gavaskar was probably the most technically sound opener the world has ever seen. Gavaskar had an amazing record against the most fearsome opposition of that time, West Indies. West Indian team consisted of some great fast bowlers at that time. Gavaskar inspired a host of other great Indian batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar to take up the sport and take Indian cricket to new heights.

Gavaskar received a lot of love from West Indian people for his exploits against their cricket team. Gavaskar ended his career with a mammoth 34 centuries which looked insurmountable at that time. At one point of time, he held the record for both- most number of centuries and most runs in Test cricket.

He scored 15 out of his 34 centuries outside Asia, no surprises that seven of those 15 came in West Indies. Like other great Indian batsmen, he also liked Australian pitches, where he scored five centuries. Also, he scored two centuries in England while he was able to get only one in New Zealand.

#1 Sachin Tendulkar (18)

Finest Indian batsman ever fittingly tops this list. Sachin created new benchmarks for the generation of batsmen to come. He scored runs all over the world and in every format, that too with utmost ease. Touted by many experts as the best batsman of all time, Sachin was an optimum mix of caution and aggression. The way he carried himself on and off the field was exemplary.

Sachin scored a monumental 51 Test centuries which is an astonishing figure and this record is expected to stand the test of time. Sachin scored 18 centuries outside Asia which is the most by any Indian batsman.

Like other Indian batsmen on this list, he relished the Australian conditions and scored six centuries there. He had a good time in England and South Africa too, where he scored five centuries each.
