The Indian cricket team has performed brilliantly in the Test format all around the world. India has always maintained an envious record in the home Test matches. However, in foreign countries also, King Kohli and his company have gained their forms creating some prestigious records.

Talking about their teamwork, the Indian guys have maintained their unity well. But when the talk comes to individual performances, only 2-3 names lead that chart. Out of that, the two major names are Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara. They both have carried the team to a new whole level in Test cricket.

But there are a plethora of other matured and experienced players also who have constantly failed to make their mark in the longest format of the game. Test cricket is a format which demands huge patience and stability which seems to have been lacking in those players.

Despite giving chances to them, their continuous failures have always invited troubles for the selection committee as the talented young guns are already warming the bench. Hence there are five such players from the Indian side whose Test career seems to be on the verge of extinction.

#1 Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh is one such cricketer whose career dwindled between cricket and cancer. The guy who smashed six sixes in an over could not continue his same old form after cancer. Cancer completely spoiled Yuvraj Singh’s career or else he was all set to become the next greatest thing for India in the cricketing world.

Nicknamed as Yuvi, Yuvraj Singh entered into the world of Test cricket as a star player on 16 October 2003 against the mighty New Zealand side. However, the year 2011 became the turning point of his career as he was diagnosed with cancer. He has so far played 40 Test matches scoring 1900 runs at an average of 33.92 runs.

Yuvi played his last Test match in the year 2012 and after that, he wasn’t seen wearing the white jersey again for his nation. Hence, considering his poor form and no place in the Test squad, his career seems to have ended.

#2 Suresh Raina

Nicknamed as Sonu, Suresh Raina just didn’t have the luck in his favour when it comes to the talk of Test cricket. Suresh Raina has done some huge wonders for India in the limited overs cricket but just failed to provide the value for his team in Test cricket.

His aggressive nature of playing is his main drawback as Test cricket demands slow and steady innings. Suresh Raina made his debut in Test cricket on 26 July 2010 against Sri Lanka as the 265th player for India. In his 18 Test matches, he had scored 768 runs at an average of 26.48 which includes one century and seven half-centuries to his name.

Suresh Raina used to be a handy player for India with the bat until his weakness of playing the short ball became well known. Pertaining to his weakness of short-pitched deliveries, Raina lost his place in all the formats of the game. His constant failures and lack of patience to build an innings became his major drawback.

Hence, considering there is no place for him in the current Indian Test squad, his Test career seems to have ended.

#3 Abhinav Mukund

Abhinav Mukund is a left-handed opening batsman who has played for India in Test matches. He made his Test debut for India on 20 June 2011 against West Indies. However, in the span of seven years, Mukund has just played seven Test matches for India.

Abhinav Mukund had amassed 320 runs in his seven Tests at a very low average of 22.85 runs per match. He hasn’t registered a single ton in Tests and has just scored two half-centuries. Abhinav got the chance to play for India during the Test series against Australia in 2017 in absence of the regular opener, Murali Vijay.

The last Test match played by him was in July 2017 against Sri Lanka where he scored 80-odd in his final innings. Considering his poor form in Test cricket, we may never see Mukund donning the Indian whites once again.

#4 Stuart Binny

Just like Karun Nair, Stuart Binny is also known as a one-match wonder in the world of cricket. He picked up the best bowling figures by an Indian in an ODI match against Bangladesh. He grabbed six wickets by just conceding four runs in that match. But when it comes to the Test cricket, Binny hasn’t done anything great and has constantly ended up giving poor performances on the ground.

Stuart Binny so far has played six Test matches in which he has scored 194 runs at an average of 21.55 runs. From the total of 450 balls bowled by him in Test matches, he has just picked three wickets in his entire career.

Also, with Hardik Pandya’s decent form as an all-rounder, Stuart Binny‘s Test career seems to have ended.

#5 Naman Ojha

Naman Ojha has been a forgotten name when it comes to Test cricket. Naman Ojha has so far just played one Test match in his entire career. Naman Ojha made his test debut for India as the 285th player on 28 August 2015 against Sri Lanka. In that match, he just scored 56 runs which included 35 from the first innings and the rest from the second innings. Naman hasn’t proved himself as a worthy player even in the limited overs cricket.

He has so far played just one ODI match which included the score of just one run. However, when it comes to first-class cricket he has proved his worth but the same has not been the case in international cricket.
