2018 has been a great year in terms of One Day International (ODI) cricket as the cricket fraternity has experienced a lot of breath-taking and jaw-dropping matches across 365 days. Unlike T20 cricket where batsmen have dominated the game, ODI cricket has witnessed both batsmen and bowlers get their due share of respect.

Shakib's tremendous abilities have come in handy for Bangladesh on most occasions as he has made immense contributions with the bat and the ball. Shakib Al Hasan has been very effective with the ball in the middle overs and has the potential to reduce the momentum of the opposition in quick succession. He has shouldered a lot of responsibility in addition to performing with the bat. His sheer brutality with the bat and his brilliant captaincy has been exemplary. He has also been the lone warrior for India in the middle-order batting conundrum.

He has featured in 14 ODI matches and has scored mammoth 1202 runs at a brilliant average of 133.56 and an extraordinary strike-rate of 102.56. He has also achieved many milestones and has his name entered in most of the record books.

With such great captaincy and individual performances, Virat Kohli undoubtedly looks like the major contender to bag the ODI Player of the Year Award.
