One has to be mentally and physically fit to carry the burden of expectations and bear the rigors of Test cricket. There have been a very few players in the history of the game who have managed to play many Test matches without a break.

#1 Alastair Cook (159)

Alastair Cook who is playing his last Test at the Kennington Oval against India has been a great ambassador for the game. The dignity with which he has played the game is commendable. A true gentleman, Cook is a fierce competitor with a calm demeanor.

He is arguably one of the greatest opening batsmen the game has ever seen. He has scored runs all around the world with supreme conviction.

Cook has played 159 Test matches on the trot for England from May 2006 to September 2018, which tells you a lot about his mental and physical fitness.

Allan Border was a tenacious personality, who, in spite of his limitations as a batsman scored a lot of runs. He was a gritty customer and played within his limitations.

He was a great captain who turned the fortunes of a struggling Australian unit and made it into a world-class team. He led by example and inspired the team to great success.

Border played 153 Test matches on the trot for Australia from March 1979 to March 1994, It is a mammoth achievement to play 15 years for your country without missing even a single Test match.

Another Australian on the list, Mark Waugh was a treat to watch as a batsman, he was elegance personified. His flicks on the leg side were the stuff of an artist.

His lazy elegance fetched him a lot of runs. He was one of the best players of spin bowling during his era.

Waugh played 107 Test matches on the trot for Australia from June 1993 to October 2002, which is a testimony of his fitness and mental strength.

#4 Sunil Gavaskar (106)

He carried the burden of Indian batting on his shoulders for many years.

Gavaskar scored runs all over the world, he was particularly good against the fast bowlers. He was so good against the pacers that the West Indian crowd loved and admired Gavaskar for his performances against their famous pace quartet.

Gavaskar played 106 Test matches on the trot for India from Jan 1975 to Feb 1987.

#5 Brendon McCullum (101)

An attacking batsman to the core, McCullum was one of the best wicket-keeper batsmen of his era. He is known for his exploits in limited overs cricket but his test record is also very impressive.

He gave a struggling New Zealand team a new direction when he took over as captain and turned it into a team to reckon with in the world of cricket.

McCullum played 101 Test matches on the trot for New Zealand from Mar 2004 to Feb 2016. He took an early retirement from test cricket at an age of 34, due to a persisting back problem.
