5 Records That Were Made During The Ind-Afg Test

Ente

The record books were ripped open during the Test match that began at Bangalore's Chinnaswamy Stadium on 14 June. The one-off test match was named "The Historic Test" quite justifiably, for it was Afghanistan's first ever Test match as they became the 12th team and the 2nd this year after Ireland to acquire the Test status.

Owing more to the name as the Test match progressed, a lot of records were broken and re-written; most of them were the consequence of the heavy massacre that the No. 1 Test team caused.

These would also serve as an incentive to fuel this talented bunch of Afghanistan players to better their record the next time they don the whites and take the field.

Here we list the 5 records that were made during the India-Afghanistan One-Off Test match:

5. Lowest Innings Totals at Chinnaswamy

109 and 103 by Afghanistan in the first and second innings respectively were the lowest totals scored at the Chinnaswamy.

The previous lowest total was 112 scored by Australia in 2017.

The lowest totals in Chinnaswamy are:

103 by Afghanistan (2018)

109 by Afghanistan (2018)

112 by Australia (2017)

116 by Pakistan (1987)

118 by India (1974)

4. Fewest overs batted in maiden Test

Afghanistan bundled out fairly quickly in the first innings in their Test debut. They could only bat for 27.5 overs, which is the lowest for any team in their maiden Test game. India didn't lose a second in enforcing the follow-on and once again folded the Afghanistan batting for a meager 109 runs in 38.4 overs.

Fewest overs batted by a team in their maiden Test match :

27.5 Afg v Ind, Bengaluru, 2018

38.4 Afg v Ind, Bengaluru, 2018

46.3 Ban v Ind, Dhaka, 2000

47.1 NZ v Eng, Christchurch, 1930

3. Fewest balls bowled in a Test match in India

This Test match also marked the fewest balls bowled in a Test match in India that produced a result. 1028 balls was all it took for the game to be over within 2 days.

The previous lowest was 1213 balls in the Wankhede Test between India and Australia in 2004 in which India beat the Kangaroos by 13 runs.

The fewest balls bowled in a Test match in India are:

1028 Ind vs Afg, Bengaluru 2018

1213 Ind vs Aus, Mumbai 2004/05

1262 Ind vs WI, Mumbai 2013

1426 Ind vs SL, Nagpur 1986

1459 Ind vs Eng, Kanpur 1951/52

2. First Indian batsman to score a century in the 1st session of a Test match

India haven't missed the maverick of Virender Sehwag at the top since Shikhar Dhawan has been around. The Test match started with a bundle of emotions for Afghanistan as they were about to play red-ball cricket for the very first time, However, Dhawan stole the limelight on Day 1.

The swashbuckling Indian opener took a liking to the young Afghani bowlers, and more notably smeared the figures of his Sunrisers teammate and No.1 T20 bowler in the world, Rashid Khan.

He left no stone unturned in making a mark in the Test before the all-important England series. The Delhi batsman flashed his way to a century before Lunch on Day 1, becoming the first Indian batsman to ever do so and the sixth overall. It took him 87 balls to achieve the milestone.

The Gabbar that we saw in his Test debut against Australia, where he scored the fastest century (in 85 balls) by a player on Test debut was once again there for everyone to witness.

Before Dhawan, Virender Sehwag came close to becoming the first Indian to score scoring a hundred before lunch when he blasted 99 off 75 on the first day of the 2nd Test against West Indies at St Lucia in June 2006.

1. India's biggest victory

The No. 1 Test team came out "ruthlessly" at the debutants Afghanistan. Being beaten is no disgrace, but Afghanistan will be disappointed at having lost the match inside two days.

On the other hand, India cruised to a victory which is now their biggest in Test cricket. They demolished their opponents by an innings and 262 runs.

Here are the 5 biggest wins for India in Test cricket :

inns & 262 runs against Afghanistan, Bengaluru (2018)

inns & 239 runs against Bangladesh, Dhaka (2007)

inns & 239 runs against SL, Nagpur (2017/18)

inns & 219 runs against Australia, Kolkata (1997/98)

inns & 198 runs against NZ, Nagpur (2010/11)
