Wicket-keeping is one of the toughest jobs in cricket. Particularly in Test cricket, it takes a lot of skill to keep wickets for a long time and then come out to bat and show their class with the bat.

The sport of cricket has seen some wonderful wicket-keeping batsmen throughout the history, and in this article, we take a look at five cricketers who scored the highest runs as wicket-keepers in Test cricket.

Andy Flower appeared in 63 Test matches for Zimbabwe and was wicket-keeper in 55 of those Tests. He was brilliant behind the stumps and never committed any errors. Flower will be remembered as one of the greatest batsmen of all-time for Zimbabwe.

He scored 4404 runs as a wicket-keeper and hit 12 centuries and 23 half-centuries at a breath-taking average of 53.71. His highest score of 232* came against India in Nagpur and saved the match.

Flower was one of the most feared batsmen and played blazing shots all around the park irrespective of the format.

Alec Stewart carried the wicket-keeping responsibilities for the England team for a long time. He played as a wicket-keeper in 82 of his 133 Test matches, and accumulated 4540 runs at an average of 34.92.

He also smashed 6 centuries and 23 half-centuries as wicket-keeper for England and was responsible for 241 dismissals behind the stumps.

Alec Stewart is third on the list of highest dismissals for England in Test cricket and holds a very high dismissal/innings score of 1.709.

MS Dhoni is one of the greatest wicket-keeper batsmen to ever play the sport of cricket. He is known for his lighting-quick keeping behind the stumps and even with age catching up to him, he is still a problem for opposition batsmen.

Dhoni, who no longer plays Test cricket, appeared in 90 Tests for India, all as wicket-keeper. He scored 4876 runs in Tests at an average of 38.09, accompanied by 6 centuries and 33 half-centuries.

He was also the captain of the team in 60 of those 90 tests and the team won 27, lost 18 and drew 15.

Boucher played in 147 matches in test cricket and stood in as wicketkeeper in all those tests. He accumulated 5515 runs at an average of 30.30, with 5 hundreds and 35 half-centuries.

He retired with 999 international dismissals to his name and is also the record-holder for highest dismissals as wicket-keeper with 555 dismissals.

Adam Gilchrist was one of the most feared batsmen in the world. On his day, he was known to hit even the world's best bowlers all-around the park. Gilchrist was a true gentleman and always played the game the right way.

Gilchrist played in 96 Test matches and was the wicket-keeper for the team in all those tests. He scored 5570 runs at an average of 47.61, accompanied by 17 centuries and 26 half-centuries and is the leading run-scorer as wicket-keeper in tests.

This record of Gilchrist's looks safe as there is no one currently close to breaking this record.
