8 Keys For Sri Lanka versus Australia
This is a match up between the heavy weights in Group A. Both still with desires to finish the group on top. So what can we expect in this much touted clash? Here are my keys
1.The Spin Factor
This promises to be huge with Australia showing in the lead up games to be weak against spin. Here on a pitch that promises to suit the spinners. The immortal Muralitharan, unorthodox Mendis (or Bandana) and useful part time of Dilshan loom large for Australia. If the Sri Lankan’s through their spinners can get on top of the Aussie batsmen they will go along way to winning the match
2.The Malinga Factor
The dreadlocked slinger Malinga only has played once this World Cup against Kenya. And my word was he devastating running through granted a very average Kenyan Team, but it was how he did it. His yorkers would have been found to be nigh on unplayable for the best of players. So here against the Aussie line up if he’s as effective. Its put down your glasses-for Sri Lanka will win!
3.Play Thisara Perera!
This paceman and huge hitting lower order batsman was left out in the previous match. His place taken by the veteran Nuwan Kulasekera. He should be included for he can do Kulasekera’s role with the ball and then is very dangerous with the bat. Adding an extra threatening dimension to the Sri Lankan batting. As he has displayed against the Australian’s before!
4.Can Sri Lanka Deal With Australia’s Pace?
The Sri Lankan’s bar Kumar Sangakkara in the past have had reputations to not being fans of facing fast bowling.Even the immortal Mahela Jayawardene has had his struggles against it in the past.In the Australian trio of Brett Lee,Mitchell Johnson and Shaun Tait you have three very decent quick bowlers who have been cutting a scathe through the World Cup.So how the Sri Lanka batsmen deal with them will go along way to determining the result
1.Are Australia Fact Or Fiction?
The Aussies have played two games against a minnow in Zimbabwe and a very average New Zealand Team. In both they ripped these Teams to shreds so you cant ignore how clinical they were in their displays. Though you also can’t ignore the weakness of the opposition. So are Australia as good as they appear to be or made to look good by how shocking the opposition were? Here against a very fine Sri Lankan Team in their home conditions this query will be answered
2.Look For Ricky Ponting!
Sadly for this great of the game his Australian lead Team were mauled in the Ashes and he struggled mightily with the bat. Then in truth was treated shabbily when how he excluded from the Australian Team for the last Sydney Test because of injury. For a warrior as proud as Ponting it would have made him an angry little man with him hanging out to make someone pay! Here in the World Cup against a past nemesis in Sri Lanka on a huge stage. That this game will be. Dont be surprised if Punta grabs this game by the scruff of the neck and scores a big one
3.Shane Watson With The Ball
The Pitch is said to be slow and not come onto the bat.So the pacemen might be neutralised. Though a very heady bowler like Watson with his liquorice all sorts medium pace with a bit of swing and seam could be a huge factor here. Plus with all the focus on the Aussie frontline fast men.He could be the one the Sri Lankan’s target to their demise.
4.The Aussie Belief
After the Ashes you could have had any Team come in and beat Australia. For their belief was that low they would have beaten themselves. Though after walloping England in an ODI series in Australia then their two World Cup romps here. The Aussie swagger is starting to return. Thus with quality still evident in the line up like Ponting, Clarke, Watson and Lee. Who thrive on this belief. They will lift the lesser players in the Team into making them believe they can do exceptional deeds. Then if the Selectors are smart they should announce prior to the game of Mike Hussey being included to the Squad. Which again will add to the belief for how revered Hussey is held. Thus making Australia a very dangerous Team at present
Lol! After predicting Bangladesh were a dead set certainty to beat the West Indies, it’s apparent I suck at predictions!
Though I haven’t brought into the quality of this Australian Team as yet with still many holes in its line up. Also relying on too few.
So against an excellent Sri Lankan Team they will be brought undone.
