Australia win 2nd Test against West Indies by 177 runs on fourth day

West Indies has lost their second test match against Australia in the ongoing Frank Worrell Trophy at Melbourne. The visiting team have been bowled out on the fourth day of the test match at 282 in 88.3 overs. Australia won the match by 177 runs.

Nathan Lyon has been named the Man of the Match for his contributions to the victory. His match figures were 7/151. He had taken 4 wickets for his side in the first innings and 3 in the second.

Australia had scored a total of 551 runs at the loss of three wickets when they declared in the first innings with Joe Burns, Usman Khawaja, Adam Voges and skipper, Steve Smith, each scoring 100 plus runs.

The Windies batting wasn’t too effective as they were bowled out at 271. Darren Bravo was their highest scorer with a total of 81.

In the second innings, Australia were only 179 for the loss of 3 wickets when they declared. The captain, Steve Smith was at 70 with Mitchell Marsh at 18 on the other end. They had only played 32 overs by then.

In the second innings, the West Indian batting was traumatised by Australia’s Mitchell Marsh, who took 4 wickets and Nathan Lyon who ended up taking 3. West Indies captain Jason Holder was putting up a good fight until he was beaten by a Mitchell Marsh delivery at 68. The score was 274 for eight at the end of 87 overs. The next two wickets fell at roughly one over intervals taking the final score to 282 at 88.3 overs.

Nathan Lyon, the Man of the Match said, "I am trying to improve each day. Credit to the bowlers. That is one area I want to keep getting better (taking catches off his own bowling). I just saw the bail pop off and I was confident (referring to Carlos Brathwaite's wicket). It was a hard fought game and credit to West Indies for pushing us till the end."
