Barbadian-born all-rounder Chris Jordan has been named in England’s squads for next week’s One-Day International (ODI) series against Ireland and Australia.

Jordan, who moved to Hove in December after being released by Surrey, has been a consistent performer for Sussex this season, reports CMC.

Sussex cricket manager Mark Robinson said Jordan deserves his first call-up to the England ODI squad.

“They will be looking at some of the most promising players in the county and Chris is certainly one of those,” Robinson told BBC Sussex.

“He is an explosive cricketer, especially as a bowler. I am sure England will have a look at him and get him among some of the more regular players as they build towards a potential World Cup in 2015.”

Jordan has taken 51 wickets at an average of 26.58 in the County Championship, as well as 11 in YB40 competition and eight in the FLt20 tournament.

His form saw him called up to represent the England Lions in their three-match series against Bangladesh A last week, when he took five wickets in two appearances at Taunton.

“He has got unbelievable hands, is a great slip catcher, has great hands in the deep as a fielder and is quick across the ground,” said Robinson.

“As a bowler he has got an extra yard of pace and can change games. In four-day games he has used that to good effect. He is a young man whose cricket is on the up. I think it is a good move to get him involved and for him to start to learn what international cricket is all about.”
