Reports: BCCI facing logistical difficulties with travelling families of Indian cricketers

Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday expressed bother over touring of wives, children and other family members alongside players as the mega-board is finding it hard to deal with lengthy numbers especially in overseas.

Talking on the matter, a BCCI official, quoted by The Times of India, said:

"If the team is travelling with less number of members, it is easier to manage. It's easy for the BCCI staff to make off-field arrangements. Right from booking tickets to rooms, the entire management of handling the arrangement is with BCCI".

There has been a lot of discussion regarding families accompanying touring players in the recent past. On Indian captain Virat Kohli's request, the BCCI had allowed wives to stay with the players after first 10 days of the tour.

The heart of the matter

Reports suggest that it is turning out to be difficult for the BCCI to manage family members along with the players. It is being said that the number had crossed over 40 in India's recent Australian tour, making one of richest cricket boards face logistical problems.

"It is difficult to manage all of them together. There is also the problem of arranging match tickets for their families. It has to be regulated. This is not a question of money," the official said.

The board is reportedly also concerned about the workload that will come with managing players and families for the entire duration of the 2019 World Cup in England.

“It would be a logistical nightmare if this arrangement - of families travelling with the players - continues to be there in England for the entire duration of the World Cup,” the official added.

India is currently in New Zealand for ODI and T20I series, prepping for the World Cup which is less than five months away.
