The background

A lot of South African stars have associated themselves with the Big Bash League this year as the likes of AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn had signed with BBL teams for the 2019/20 season. While de Villiers signed a deal with Brisbane Heat, Steyn will play for the Melbourne Stars.

Hobart Hurricanes had vacated two of their overseas spots by releasing Tymal Mills and Johan Botha ahead of the season.

The heart of the matter

David Miller will make his Big Bash League debut in the ninth season of the tournament. The 30-year-old has made a name for himself while playing T20 cricket around the world.

Miller has played 294 T20 matches in his career, aggregating over 6,000 runs at an average of 34.81. His strike rate of 138.78 indicates his big-hitting power and the fact that he has hit 277 sixes in T20 cricket proves that he will be a valuable asset for the Hobart-based franchise in the Big Bash League.

He has played for a lot of franchises in his career, namely Jamaica Tallawahs, Kings XI Punjab, Winnipeg Hawks, St. Lucia Zouks and Dolphins.

What's next?

While Miller has had a prolific career in T20 cricket, the left-handed batsman was recently released from the Kings XI Punjab side owing to his below-par performances in the IPL. Hobart Hurricanes will play their first BBL match of the season on 20th December i.e. one day after the IPL Auction.
