Gayle not available till December

West Indies batsman Chris Gayle will be sidelined for two to three months as he has decided to undergo back surgery. Gayle was playing in Caribbean Premier League for Jamaica Tallawah team, who lost to Dwayne Bravo's Trinidad and Tobago in their attempt to book place in the semi-finals.

In a post-match short interview, Gayle told ESPNcricinfo: "I have a charity game on the 2nd, but after that I will be out of cricket for two to three months. I am going to do a surgery on my back.

"So I need some time for recovery. Maybe December, before I actually get back in cricket as well. You have got to wish me luck with that surgery and then I will be back strong. Who knows, we will see what happens."

The Caribbean player has played 222 Twenty20 matches for his respective clubs all around the World. With 175 runs being his highest score, he has scored 8224 runs at an average of 44.21.

He has been having back issue since a long time; even during the recently concluded World Cup, he had to miss some matches in the group stages because of it. Gayle took an injection before the quarter-final match against one of the hosts, New Zealand.

West Indies are scheduled to play a tri-series against Pakistan and Zimbabwe in August-September which Gayle will be missing. He is expected to return in December after the recovery period.

Big Bash League's team Melbourne Renegades have him in their contract; the league starts in mid-December.
