After a month of T20 action in the West Indies, the Jamaica Tallawahs emerged victorious in the Final of the Caribbean Premier League 2016. The Amazon Warriors were put into bat by the Jamaica Tallawahs and could only manage 93 runs for the loss of all their wickets in 16 overs.

Imad Wasim picked up 3 wickets for the Tallawahs while conceding 21 runs in his 4 overs. The Tallawahs, in reply, chased down the target with over 7 overs to spare. Chris Gayle top-scored with 54 runs off 27 deliveries as Imad Wasim was awarded the Man of the Match trophy.

This season was filled with many remarkable moments as each team fought valiantly for a place in the playoffs. Guyana Amazon Warriors batsman Chris Lynn scored the most number of runs this season with 454 runs in 12 matches with a high score of 86 at a strike-rate of 133.13. Trinbago Knight Riders skipper Dwayne Bravo picked up the most number of wickets this season and ended with 21 wickets in 12 matches and an economy rate of 8.42 runs per over.

#5 Umar Akmal’s heroics against the Zouks

The Trinbago Knight Riders faced off against the St Lucia Zouks in the 24th game of the season. After being put into bat first, the Zouks got off to a good start as Andre Fletcher and Johnson scored 60 runs in the first 7 overs of the match. The Zouks managed to reach 167 for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs with skipper Sammy scoring 37 runs in 18 deliveries.

In reply, the Knight Riders got off to a horror start, losing 5 wickets in the first 10 overs of the match with 63 on board. Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal came into form as he steadied the ship for the Knight Riders.

With 46 runs needed in the final 4 overs, Akmal hit Jerome Taylor for 3 consecutive sixes and a boundary, scoring 23 runs in the 17th over and shifted the game in favour of the Knight Riders. Akmal remained unbeaten on 73 from 35 deliveries, as the Knight Riders chased down the target with an over to spare in the end. Akmal’s inspiring fightback earned him the Man of the Match award.

In a crucial encounter between the Trinbago Knight Riders and the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, skipper Dwayne Bravo ensured his team grabbed the 2 points that were on offer. The Patriots chose to bat first and lost 3 wickets in the first 5 overs with just 25 on board.

Bravo picked up the important wickets of Evin Lewis, Faf du Plessis, Shamarh Brooks, and Devon Thomas, ending with figures of 4 for 13 in 4 overs with an economy rate of 3.25 runs per over and performed the ‘Champion’ dance in front of the Florida crowd.

In reply, the Knight Riders chased down the target of 138 that was set by the Patriots with 3 overs to spare. Wicket-keeper batsman Denesh Ramdin scored a fifty and he was well supported by William Perkins and Brendon McCullum during the chase. Bravo was awarded the Man of the Match trophy for his outstanding bowling performance against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

#3 Andre Russell’s quickfire century

In the Qualifier 2, the Jamaica Tallawahs faced off against the Trinbago Knight Riders for a spot in the Final against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Even though the Tallawahs got off to an aggressive start, they found themselves struggling at 67 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 10 overs before Andre Russell began his show.

In a must-win game, the West Indies player pulled out his best performance of this season, scoring 11 sixes and 3 boundaries to reach his maiden century for the Tallawahs.

Russell’s innings helped the Tallawahs to reach 195 in 20 overs. The game got reduced to 12 overs due to a rain delay and in reply, the Knight Riders ended at 110 for the loss of 7 wickets. Russell starred in the bowling as well, picking up a couple of wickets while conceding 27 runs in 3 overs. Russell was awarded the Man of the Match as he secured a spot in the Final for the Tallawahs.

The Zouks were in trouble against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots after being put into by first by the Patriots in the 21st match of the tournament. The Zouks batted with the purpose of scoring quick runs, but kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

After losing 4 wickets for just 83 runs of the board, skipper Darren Sammy entered to bat and changed the entire situation of the match, scoring 59 runs in just 35 deliveries that included a couple of boundaries and 5 sixes at a strike-rate of 168, lifting the Zouks to a total of 174 in 20 overs.

In reply, the Patriots fell well short of the target, scoring 139 for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Faf du Plessis top-scored for the Patriots with 48 runs in 37 deliveries. Sammy also bowled economically against the Patriots, picking up the dangerous wicket of Devon Thomas while conceding 26 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Sammy was awarded the Man of the Match at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.

In the 7th match of the tournament, the Jamaica Tallawahs were put up against the Trinbago Knight Riders and after losing the toss, the Knight Riders were put into bat first. Openers Hashim Amla and Brendon McCullum gave the Knight Riders a good start of 49 in 5 overs as Amla went on to score 74 runs in 52 deliveries.

Colin Munro played a great helping hand as the Knight Riders reached a total of 191 for the loss of 4 wickets in their 20 overs.

In reply, the Tallawahs skipper Chris Gayle got off to a brilliant start and showed his class as he smashed the Knight Riders bowlers to all parts of the ground. Sulieman Benn was introduced to bowl in the 13th over and Chris Gayle did not spare him as he hit 25 runs in that over that included 4 sixes.

Gayle went on to score a century in that game and chased down the target set by the Knight Riders with 10 deliveries to spare.
