Kane Williamson throws cheque, Kohli booed and more - Cricket News Today, 8th December 2018

Welcome to Sportskeeda's Cricket News Today, a section that covers a summary of the trending news topics of the day in the world of cricket.

The game is on in Adelaide - after three engaging days of play, it's still difficult to figure who's in the driver's seat in the ongoing India-Australia Test.

For fans, however, be it a match day or even a boring, non-match day, there's loads to catch up on the cricketing front with updates from around the world.

Here are some of the headlines from the world of cricket:

#1 Kane Williamson throws away winner's cheque

An uncharacteristically abrasive Kane Williamson, captain of the New Zealand side that won the first away Test series against Pakistan in 49 years, was seen at the post-match presentation of the game, flinging the winner's cheque and what not.

All seemed fine until Williamson finished his bit of conversation with the presenter, Rameez Raja. He then proceeded to collect the winner's trophy, but instead of getting it handed by one of the sponsors, as is the norm, he nonchalantly flicked it off its base and walked off to his huddled teammates. The embarrassed sponsor, on live television, had no idea where to go.

He then tossed away the winner's cheque, and posed for the photographs with his teammates, even as a bewildered Raja kept trying to make words with the bizarre series of events unfolding in front of him.

#2 "Had a lot of enemies', says Gautam Gambhir

"Yes, I made many enemies but I slept in peace"

Gambhir has always been someone who bares his heart on his sleeve, not flinching in the face of testing opposition in any challenging situation.

Speaking out after playing the final innings of his professional career, Gambhir acknowledged that he had had a number of enemies, but never gave in to the pressure.

"I can't tolerate wrong things and artificiality. A lot of people around me say that I could have been diplomatic but that is simply not me. Yes, I made many enemies but I slept in peace," said Gambhir, as quoted by PTI.

He had tiffs with his state board selectors on multiple occasions but always tried to send his point across.

"I am not being holier than thou but some of the things that go on in our system are absolutely ridiculous. I was vocal about them and I paid the price by having an unfulfilled career," he said.

#3 Kohli booed, Ponting doesn't like it

Australia v India - 1st Test: Day 3
Australia v India - 1st Test: Day 3

The spotlight has well and truly been on Virat Kohli on the Australian tour; from the video of him smacking the Indian bowlers around in nets (which you should watch with the volume up) going viral, to his over-the-top wicket celebrations, the spectrum has been quite diverse.

He turned into a headline yet again, after he was booed by a small section of the Australian crowd before coming on to bat on Day 3.

Speaking to cricket.com.au, former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting said that he doesn't "like seeing it at all”.

“It didn’t worry me as a player when it happened in England a couple times. You’ve almost got to accept it as an acknowledgement for what you’ve done in the game. But I’d rather not see that happen at all.”

“It’ll be water off a duck’s back him, I’m sure. He’s probably had worse things happen to him on a cricket field, I would have thought, than getting booed by a couple of spectators as he walks on.”

“If anything, it might have steeled him a little bit more. He was hardly playing a shot (earlier) and he looked like he wanted to really ground the Aussies into the deck.”
