Cricket World Cup History: 4 players who have played for two countries in the World Cup

In the eleven editions of the Cricket World Cup conducted so far, Australia have emerged as the most successful team with five World Cup wins to their name. India and West Indies have won the title on two occasions while Sri Lanka and Pakistan have one triumph.

Every international player dreams to represent his nation at the World Cup but there have been multiple instances in history where the same player has represented two different countries in different editions of the Cricket World Cup.

#4 Eoin Morgan (Ireland - 2007, England - 2011, 2015 and 2019)

Eoin Morgan is the captain of England

The player who is known to have Irish blood and an English heart, Eoin Morgan has represented both Ireland and England in the Cricket World Cup. Born in Dublin, the southpaw batsman played for Ireland in the initial phases of his cricketing career.

He made his World Cup debut for Ireland in the year 2007 and played nine World Cup games for them before he switched to England.

Morgan joined the Enlgand team in 2009 and his phenomenal batting skills earned him a place in the 2011 World Cup squad. He became the captain of the team ahead of the 2015 ICC World Cup and is currently leading the English side in his second World Cup as the team captain.

#3 Ed Joyce (England - 2007, Ireland - 2011 and 2015)

Ed Joyce played for England first and then switched to Ireland

Another European player who played for Ireland and England in the Cricket World Cup is Ed Joyce. The left-handed opener made his World Cup debut for England in the year 2007. Joyce had a decent outing in his maiden World Cup as the Irishman recorded two half centuries.

He then decided to play for his native country, Ireland and represented Ireland in the 2011 and 2015 World Cups. Joyce played a key role in the rise of the Ireland cricket team as his 84-run knock against West Indies helped Ireland chase down a 300+ score in a 2015 World Cup group match. He scored his first ever World Cup hundred in the same World Cup during Ireland's group fixture versus Zimbabwe.

Joyce will always be remembered as one of the greatest Irish players to have played international cricket.

#2 Anderson Cummins (West Indies - 1992 and Canada - 2007)

Anderson Cummins returned to international cricket after a 14-year gap

The 'man of the match' from the 1992 World Cup match between India and West Indies, Anderson Cummins surprised everyone by returning to the ICC World Cup in the year 2007 as a member of the Canadian team.

Cummins made his World Cup debut for the West Indian side in the year 1992 and he was fairly successful in his maiden World Cup as he picked 12 wickets for West Indies.

The pacer then went on to represent Durham in 1993 and 1994 before making his World Cup debut for Canada at the age of 40. Canada played only three matches in the 2007 World Cup before being knocked out, which meant Cummins could not do much for his side.

He took two wickets in three games before his World Cup career ended with Canada.

#1 Kepler Wessels (Australia - 1983 and South Africa - 1992)

Wessels was the first dual international in World Cup history

South Africa-born left-handed batsman, Kepler Wessels had to make his World Cup debut for the Australian side as his native country was banned from playing international cricket. Wessels played only three matches for the Australian side in the 1983 World Cup.

He then switched to the South African team as their ban was lifted and they qualified for the 1992 World Cup. Kepler Wessels made his World Cup debut for South Africa in a match against Australia. His fine knocks in the tournament helped the Rainbow Nation reach the semifinals of the tournament before rain knocked them out of the World Cup. That match was Kepler Wessels' final World Cup match.
