Indian film director Ram Gopal Varma has taken a veiled dig at the Indian cricket team by asking if the United States of America took their cricket seriously would we be able to win on their soil. In the recently concluded Olympics America won 46 gold medals, whereas India bagged one silver and a bronze, the tally has made the director wonder if they can beat India in cricket too.

The Indian cricket team are presently in the USA where they are scheduled to play two Twenty 20 matches against World Champions West Indies. The Indian medal tally from the Olympics has also not quite met the expectations. Before the start of the Games, even the toughest of critics believed the contingent will be able to match their London tally in 2012 of six medals.

Some even predicted a double digit. But all these expectations could not meet reality as most of the country’s top athletes could not perform at the highest level.

Since the Rio results many have slammed the country for the performance including British journalist Piers Morgan who has posted many updates on Twitter, highlighting the poor performance of the Indian athletes at the Rio games.

Morgan had to face enormous outrage on the site as the Indians too took a dig on his nation England not winning a cricket World Cup even though they are considered to have given birth to the game. Even Indian batting legend Virender Sehwag took a dig at him.

At Rio, India grabbed two medals, courtesy of P.V Sindhu who pocketed the silver in women’s singles badminton and Sakshi Malik who picked the bronze at the 58kg women’s freestyle wrestling. Other star athletes like Gagan Narang, Yogeshwar Dutt, Saina Nehwal who had bagged medals four years back in London, disappointed this time around.
