"He was saying that I might need to run off and go to the toilet again," revealed Matt Renshaw, who laughed along with Virat Kohli's sledge.

Matt Renshaw was amused by Virat Kohli's attempted sledging on a fiery day two of the second Test between India and Australia in Bangalore.

India were trying their best to hamper the tourists after a woeful first innings left the hosts all out for 189, and Sunday's sessions were littered with pointed exchanges between the players.

When it was Renshaw's turn to receive the opposition's attention, though, the opening batsman was unfazed as he made his way to a controlled 60 - Australia reaching stumps on 237-6.

"I was just trying to enjoy it and trying to laugh at what [Kohli] was saying because some of it was quite funny," Renshaw revealed to a media conference.

"He was just saying that I might need to run off and go to the toilet again, which happened in [the first Test in] Pune, so it was quite funny."

Captains Kohli and Steve Smith were involved in a confrontation when the India players felt Renshaw blocked Ravichandran Ashwin from getting to the ball as the Australia skipper nudged himself off the mark.

Umpire Nigel Llong stepped in to calm the players down, but Renshaw felt the hosts' reaction was an attempt at playing mind games.

"We know that they were trying to get under our skin because we've got a 1-0 lead in the series, but we took it pretty well and were just trying to get on with the game," he said.

"There was a bit of talk [between Smith and Kohli] but I think that's because they're just trying to unnerve each other and try and get under the skin.

"I don't try and say too much out there, I was just trying to smile because in my past experience smiling seems to unnerve the bowlers a bit more than talking back.

"They seemed to get quite frustrated. I was just trying to enjoy it out there and have fun."

India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara admitted sledging is a part of the game that often comes to the fore against Australia, but he offered an assurance there was no malice involved.

"When we play the Australian team there is always some sledging involved," said Pujara.

"I don't know what the exact words were but there were moments where they were exchanging a few words.

"But all in all I think it was all in the spirit of the game and there was nothing personal, they were just having a chat."
