On the 6th day of ICC Women’s World T20 tournament, Sri Lanka kept their hopes of reaching the semi-finals alive by registering their first win of the tournament beating Bangladesh while defending champions West Indies defeated South Africa to make it two out of two wins.

In the first match of the day, Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 25 runs played at St Lucia. Bangladesh captain Salma Khatun won the toss and decided to field first. In the first six overs, Sri Lanka scored only 17 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. The top scorer for Sri Lanka was Siriwardene with 31 runs. Sri Lanka posted a modest total of 97 for 7 in 20 overs., Jahanara Alam was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh with 3 for 21.

Defending the target of 98 runs, the Sri Lankan bowlers piled the pressure on the Bangladesh batters and did not allow them to score runs easily. In the first six overs, Bangladesh scored 20 for 2. The Sri Lankan bowlers kept picking wickets and bowled out Bangladesh for 72 runs. Nigar Sultana was the top scorer for Bangladesh with 20 runs.

Sri Lanka 97 for 7 in 20 overs (Siriwardene 31, Jahanara Alam 3/21) beat Bangladesh 72 in 20 overs (Nigar Sultana 20, Chamari Atapattu 3/17) by 25 runs.

West Indies make two wins out of two matches

Defending Champions West Indies defeated South Africa by 31 runs to register their second successive win played at St Lucia. The South African captain Dan Van Niekerk won the toss and decided to field first. West Indies could only score a modest total of 107 for 7 in 20 overs. In the first six overs, West Indies were 24 for 3. Knight was the top scorer with 32 while McLean managed to score 28 runs. S Ismail took 3 wickets for 12 runs for South Africa.

Defending a target of 108 runs, the West Indies bowlers and fielders did a remarkable job to bowl out South Africa for 76 runs in 18.4 overs. With this win, West Indies are one step away from reaching the quarterfinals.
