Day 1 of the second Test match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata saw a packed-crowd witness history unfold in front of their eyes. The first-ever day-night Test played with a pink SG ball saw a huge turnout as India went about their business, as usual, dismissing the visitors for a paltry 106 in the first innings. The pomp and show were there for everyone to see as dignitaries from both countries as well as former cricketers attended this huge occasion.

Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, former India player Sachin Tendulkar and 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev formed the highlights of the day.
First Session highlights
As Twitter went wild reacting to the new dimension of Test cricket, former England captain Michael Vaughan congratulated BCCI president on finally organizing a day-night Test and also challenged the former Indian captain to play two winter Tests in Australia next year under lights. Regardless of the hype created around this historic occasion, Indian captain fast bowlers kept their focus on the task at hand and claimed all the ten wickets to make history. Ishant Sharma took only his second five-wicket haul in India as Bangladesh continued their disappointing batting performance from the Indore Test. In the first session, the visitors could only manage 73 runs for the loss of six wickets in 21.4 overs. Bangladesh went into supper with their premier batsman Liton Das struck on the helmet by a Mohammad Shami delivery. Das was beaten for pace and was immediately checked by the physio. Ishant bowled some tight lines and lengths to take two wickets in the first session.
Second Session highlights
Bangladesh returned to the field with Liton Das being replaced by Mehidy Hasan as a concussion substitute. However, Bangladesh's unfortunate start to the Test continued as Nayeem Hasan was struck on the helmet by Shami. Indian physio Nitin Patel came out for Hasan's check-up as he continued to bat after the hit. He was soon out to a sharp ball from Ishant Sharma demolishing his stumps. Later it was revealed that Hasan wouldn't be fit enough to take the field and was replaced by Taijul Islam as Bangladesh's second concussion substitute.
Soon the visitors were bundled out in the 31st over, with Ishant Sharma ending the first innings with five for 22 runs in 12 overs. This was only the fourth instance when Indian pacers had taken all ten wickets at home.
Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal came into bat and gave India a decent start before the in-form Agarwal was out to Al-Amin Hossain, trying to cut a wide delivery and handing a low catch at gully. Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma took India into the dinner session, with the score reading 35 for one at the end of 12 overs. Rohit Sharma was lucky to be still out there having being dropped by Al-Amin just before Tea.
Third session highlights
The fifth ball after tea saw Rohit Sharma get out to an incoming delivery by Ebadat Hossain which came in off the pitch. Sharma offered no shot and was given out after scoring 21 runs. Having lost both the openers, Pujara and Virat Kohli batted sensibly before Pujara was out to a rising delivery by Hossain. Ajinkya Rahane and Kohli saw off the day with the score reading 174 runs for the loss of three wickets. Pujara was dismissed after scoring his 24th Test fifty while the skipper also raced to a calculated half-century, his 23rd in Tests.
