What's the story?
Intending to improve the calls of front foot no balls, BCCI is planning to use the Indian team’s matches and experiment the new no ball camera technology. The technology had been a part of the pink ball Test match between India and Bangladesh and as per the latest reports, the board will continue using it in the upcoming series against West Indies.
The background
The on-field umpires have often missed out on the front foot no balls during the domestic and international matches. In IPL 2019, the match officials did not note Lasith Malinga’s no ball during the final over of the game between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore and that mistake cost RCB the match.
Besides, there have been many occasions where the umpires have committed errors in this matter.
The heart of the matter
Talking to IANS on Friday (29th November), the joint secretary of the Indian cricket governing body, Jayesh George, revealed the plans about the no-ball technology. He said:
“Yes, it is a work in progress. IPL has always stood for innovation. Our endeavour is to make sure that every season of the IPL sees new technology come in and helps in progress of the game. More importantly, why should a player suffer if technology can help erase the issue?
He further confirmed that the officials will use this technology during the upcoming series between India and West Indies. Jayesh added:
“In the past, we have seen that the front foot no-ball is a grey area and I am of the view that technology which can help in detecting front foot no-balls can be put to use. Massive testing is being done and will continue in the West Indies series as well.”
The joint secretary signed off by mentioning that his team will have a closer look at the results before thinking about its future.

The T20I series between India and West Indies will begin on 6th December. It will be intriguing to see how the new technology helps in improving the on-field standards.
