IPL 2017, DD vs MI: Player Ratings
Player ratings from Mumbai's decimation of Delhi in the IPL.
Mumbai Indians thumped Delhi Daredevils by 146 runs to become the first team to secure a place in the IPL 2017 play-offs on Saturday.
After the big hitting West Indian duo of Lendl Simmons (66 off 43) and Kieron Pollard (63* off 35) propelled the side to 212/3, Mumbai bowlers shot out Delhi for a paltry 66 in 13.4 overs to make it a night of absolute domination for the visitors.
Here are the player ratings for both the sides.
Mumbai Indians (MI)
Parthiv Patel – 7/10
Patel again provided Mumbai with a solid start at the top which paved the way for the team’s victory. He added 79 in 8.4 overs with his new opening partner, Lendl Simmons, before getting stumped by Pant off Mishra. His glovework was pretty tight as well.
Lendl Simmons – 9/10
Despite playing his first game of the season, Simmons showed no sign of nerve and went hammer and tongs from the outset. The West Indian smashed five fours and four sixes on his way to a sparkling 43-ball 66. His fiery innings was instrumental in helping Mumbai set up a mammoth target for Delhi.
Rohit Sharma – 7/10
Sharma has not been in the best of forms this IPL, and he failed to make much impression with the bat again. The MI skipper scored only 10 off 6 before falling to Mishra. He, though, led his side brilliantly and plucked as many as three catches with one of them turning out to be an absolute ripper to send back Marlon Samuels.
Kieron Pollard – 9/10
Pollard has been an architect of a number of come-from-behind victories for MI over the years. This time, though, the mighty West Indian got an opportunity to bat at one down and he made a real feast of it, blasting an unbeaten 63 off 35 deliveries. His whirlwind knock featured five four and four towering sixes with all the maximums coming off leggie Mishra.
Hardik Pandya – 8/10
Pandya underlined his emergence as a hard-hitting, lower-order batsman once again with a quickfire 29 off 14 balls. His unbeaten fourth-wicket stand with Pollard yielded Mumbai 59 runs in only 27 balls. He took a special liking to Cummins’ bowling during his knock as he spanked the Aussie pacer for two sixes in the last over of MI’s innings.
Karn Sharma – 8/10
Karn Sharma made the most of the opportunity he got in the absence of Krunal Pandya. The leggie dismissed Samuels, Rabada and Zaheer Khan to claim 3/11 from 3.4 overs.
Harbhajan Singh- 8/10
Harbhajan has been in a terrific form with the ball in this IPL and he came up with another sterling show last night. Brought on to bowl in the fifth over, he immediately made an impact accounting for dangerous looking Karun Nair. He added two more wickets to his tally to finish the game with figures of 3/22 from his four overs.
Mitchell McClenaghan- 7/10
McClenaghan provided a perfect start to Mumbai’s defence with the dismissal of Sanju Samson off the very first ball. He did go for some runs in his second over but with his team recording such a huge win, it would be considered only a minor blip.
Jasprit Bumrah – 8/10
MI’s death over specialist Bumrah bowled only one over in the match, but that was enough for him to make an impact. Bowling the fourth over of the innings, he killed DD’s run-chase by sending immensely talented Rishabh Pant back to the hut for a duck.
Lasith Malinga – 8.5/10
Malinga magic was on display once again as he scalped Iyer and Anderson to jolt DD’s run-chase. His figures of 2/5 from his two overs ensured Mumbai would go on to register a comprehensive victory in Delhi.
