IPL 2019: 3 stats that prove Mumbai Indians has dominated Chennai Super Kings in IPL history

The rivalry between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings is known to everyone. Whenever these two IPL giants play each other, the expectations are sky-high. It is one of the epic clashes which can pull the crowd to the ground even on working days. Both have tasted almost equal success in the IPL. Mumbai has won the IPL thrice, and all of them came under Rohit Sharma's captaincy.

On the other hand, Chennai too has won the IPL thrice, with all of them under MS Dhoni's leadership. So, if any of them wins the 2019 IPL, it would become the most successful IPL team. There is always a debate among the fans about which team is the best whenever these two meet each other. Both have almost an equal record in IPL history.

If we have to take the overall record, CSK has the upper hand with the best winning percentage and is also the team which has qualified for all the playoffs. But when it comes to MI vs CSK clashes, Mumbai Indians is the front-runners, and there are a few stats which will prove that Mumbai Indians has dominated the Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in IPL history.

Mumbai Indians is the only team which has won more matches against Chennai Super kings than the number of losses against the team. They have won 13 matches against them, losing only 11. It clearly states that they matched equally game after game.

CSK have played against 10 different teams in IPL including Mumbai Indians, and they have more than 50% win percentage against all the nine other teams. These two also met in the finals thrice, with CSK winning the 2010 season and Mumbai Indian winning the trophy in 2013 and 2015 by beating their arch-rivals.

Chennai Super Kings is the most consistent team in IPL when it comes to batting. If we ask you to recollect when was the last time CSK was bowled out for less than 100 runs in the IPL, you would struggle to answer because there haven't been many such instances. However, the Chennai based team got bowled out cheaply once in IPL history, and the opponent was Mumbai Indias.

It happened during the 49th match of 2013 season. Mumbai won the toss and elected to bat first on a relatively tough pitch. They managed to score 139/5 in 20 overs. Chasing the modest target, CSK lost early wickets to Mitchell Johnson, and post that they kept losing wickets.

They eventually got bowled out for 79 runs. This is still the lowest score ever recorded by Chennai Super Kings in IPL history. Even when it comes to high scoring games, Chennai has scored over 200 runs only once against Mumbai. On the other side, the Ambani-owned Mumbai Indians have done it twice against their rivals.

Both the teams have always been blessed with match winners. Chennai has had the likes of Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, and the likes of Matthew Hayden and Michael Hussey in the past. For Mumbai, they have the likes of Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, and Lasith Malinga at the present. They have also had some of the greatest cricketers like Sanath Jayasuriya, Sachin Tendulkar, and Mitchell Johnson in the past.

There have been some incredible individual performance recorded when these outfits have met each other. No one from Chennai has scored a century against Mumbai in IPL history. But Mumbai's first ever individual century came when the Sri Lankan legend Jayasuriya smashed a 48 ball-114 against CSK at Mumbai, which helped the hosts chase down 157 runs inside 14 overs.

When it comes to bowling, there was only once when a bowler took a five-wicket haul when these teams played each other in IPL. It was Harbhajan Singh, and he took 5/18 against them in the 2011 season. Interestingly, the Indian off-spinner currently plays for Chennai Super Kings.
