Chennai Super Kings have been the most consistent team in the history of the IPL. They have qualified for the top 4 in all nine seasons they have played, and they won the coveted trophy on three occasions - in 2010, 2011 and 2018.

The year 2019 was a near-perfect one for CSK until they lost the final to Mumbai Indians by the narrowest margin of one run.

The management will look to target certain players in the upcoming auction, to address the few concerns that appeared in the latter half of last season. On that note, here is a look at 3 overseas players that CSK would do well to get on-board:

#1 James Neesham

James Neesham

James Neesham has been in good form in limited overs cricket lately, averaging 43.60 in ODIs this year. He has also picked up 25 wickets at an average of 20.84 in this period.

Although he has not played a T20 international this year, the Kiwi all-rounder has re-invented himself as a cricketer in 2019 and would be an asset to any team.

The left-handed batsman can play the role of a finisher for the Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming season and can also bowl his quota of 4 overs whenever required. He can be a replacement for Mitchell Santner, who failed to get a regular place in the playing XI due to the spin heavy bowling attack of the team.

Neesham has played a solitary IPL season, in the year 2014, and since then has not been picked by any franchise. However, a successful year at the international level may open the gates once again for him in the league.

The presence of Neesham and Dwayne Bravo in the dressing room will also be a great learning opportunity for the young Indian players representing Chennai Super Kings.

#2 Morne Morkel

In the past, Chennai Super Kings have shown a willingness to select experienced players. And Morne Morkel could be the fast bowler they target this time in that regard.

Morkel, who retired from international cricket last year, is an active T20 player. The 35-year-old pacer could be an apt replacement for Scott Kuggeleijn, who played just two matches last season.

Morkel brings in plenty of experience in the fast bowling department and is well-versed with bowling on Indian pitches. He has tasted success in the IPL in the past, bagging the Purple Cap in the year 2012.

The lanky pacer has played 70 IPL games till date and picked up 77 wickets.

Though Morkel is not getting any younger, it has been seen in the recent past that age has little to do with on-field performance. As long as Morkel picks up wickets and controls the flow of runs, he can be handy even today in IPL cricket.

#3 Brandon King

Brandon King

Chennai Super Kings require a young batman at the top of the order who can set the tone early in the innings. And King is one player who would be on the radar of the management this season.

King was the top scorer in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League, racking up 496 runs in 12 innings at an impressive average of 55.11 and an astonishing strike rate of 148.95. He was instrumental in the success of Guyana Amazon Warriors, who finished as the runners-up.

King scored an unbeaten 132 in the playoffs against Barbados Tridents, which included 11 sixes.

Players from West Indies have tasted plenty of success in the IPL and in T20 cricket overall, and King too will be eager to make his mark in the IPL. He can be a replacement for Faf du Plessis, who is not in the best of touch right now.
